One of the main problems with monotheism is that it desacralized the world. That is instead of the sacred being in the world, in the springs, lakes, trees, rocks, animals etc etc the sacred was now all in the one God who was "out there". So the world and everything in it just became things. This is a very serious drawback of monotheism.
