Europeans Can't Name One African Language. Can you?

Interesting video asking Europeans on the street if they can name ONE African language. Even a girl who is part Nigerian couldn't name a language and didn't know her own father's Nigerian ethnicity. Only one black woman could successfully name a language, but failed to know where it's spoken.

There are 2,000 local African languages! Are you able to name one? Don't Google!

Update:
The U.S. public school system is considered notoriously mediocre. It's surprising to see that the European educational system may not be any better.

reply

Swahili?

reply

I'm surprised they couldn't name that one since it's a lingua franca.
(I hope you didn't Google.)

reply

Nope...just the only one I know of.
lol...

reply

Pretty sad if there’s 2000 linguistics on that continent!

reply

Congratulations! You did better than the European interviewees and MC posters (so far.)
If you watch "Bob Hearts Abishola", you should be able to name a second one.

I read some languages will likely become extinct.

reply

Wahtusii? Just another that comes to mind...

reply

I imagine Zimbabwe’s has it’s own tongue as well.
Going on memory here! Old movies and geography...

reply

‘The Naked Prey’ with Cornel Wilde...

reply

Zimbabwe likely has many local languages.
Swahili was spoken in the old Tarzan movies, Daktari TV series and by Uhura in Star Trek. Also language of Kwanzaa.

reply

Ethnic group and dance. Not language, I believe.

reply

Bantu
French

reply

Bantu isn't a language, but a language group similar to Romance language. (Don't Google.)
French is European.

reply

Language, language group who cares ? Oh of course hair splitters ! ( Don't Google ! )

French is the official language in Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo, the Côte d'Ivoire, Djibouti, Gabon, Guinea, Madagascar, Mali, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, the Seychelles, and Togo. French is very much an African language. So stick that in your Woke pipe and smoke it ! ( Don't Google ! )

reply

You can't name one African language.
French is a European language.

And you're cheating by googling.

reply

No you're cheating by mentioning the word google ! That's against the rules ! And you're being racist by refusing to admit that French is an African language !

reply

Play nice or you'll be disqualified.

reply

Typical Woke mindset. We set the rules that everyone has to follow and no-one can make rules but us ! That's what the Communists do.

reply

And a whole lot of Africans speak nothing but French. Dumbass.

reply

French is expected to have more global speakers than English because of African francophones. Nevertheless, French originated in Europe, therefore it's a European language.

Play nice. No name-calling.

reply

French is a European language.

So if someone said
"Name a language spoken in North America"
and got the reply "English"
that would be a wrong answer?

reply

No, but if they answered English to the question "Name a North American Language" it most certainly would be...

To answer the op, Swahili would be the only one...

reply

That would not be the question. I asked:
"There are 2,000 local African languages! Are you able to name one? Don't Google!"

I would've framed the question:
Name an INDIGENOUS North American language."

But, that's too easy! I would've asked for an Indigenous South American or Indigenous Caribbean language.

reply

ok ok . indiginous .
No i cant . I guess there being 2000 of them dosent make it easier , it makes it harder .

reply

You said nothing about native languages.

reply

Portuguese "crioulo"

reply

That's European.

reply

Is Angola in Europe?

reply

Portuguese Creole is still Portuguese, a European language. (Don't google.)

reply

I'm not googling, my wife is from Angola and we live in Portugal lol

reply

Then, I hope your wife can name one African language.

reply

Why ? What difference does it make to anything, apart from your fevered Woke brain ?

reply

People can easily name one Asian language, one European language and one American language.

Glaring ignorance about an entire continent leads to nothing positive.

reply

Oh I see. In your tiny Woke brain you imagine you are doing a public service by "educating" people. I disagree. Globalisation is a catastrophe and the world would be much better off if people for the most part stayed in their own countries and, for the most part again, concerned themselves with their own countries.

For instance Africans will only truly grow up and take responsibility for themselves when Whitey stops running to help them when they get into trouble.

reply

You can't name one African language, but you feel qualified to give geopolitical advice about the region.

Russia is in many African countries destabilizing multiple regions with their mercenaries, The Wagner Group. They're also propping up brutal dictators and spreading terrorism which eventually will spill out to the rest of the world in a similar way to Russia's Afghanistan invasion leading to 9/11.

Your "head in the sand" approach doesn't work nor has it ever worked. It didn't work during WWII when the U.S. tried to stay out of the war only to have Pearl Harbor attacked. All countries trade with each other, must defend against possible attacks and form alliances. That's reality!

reply

So you flailing about and throwing everything and the kitchen sink into your "argument" is reality ?

reply

You haven't countered with an answer to my post so I'll assume you have none.

reply

So you flailing about and throwing everything and the kitchen sink into your "argument" is reality ?

Hello ?

reply

Still no answer.

reply

Still denying that I have given you your answer, several times in this thread in fact. But then denial is the state in which Woke Folk perpetually live.

reply

Absolutely irrelevant.

reply

Being ignorant about a continent is relevant since it influences a worldview.

I was actually expecting more posters to be able to name African languages so I'm surprised by the results.

reply

Utter bullshit. You set this whole thread up ( Don't Google ! ) so that you could have a gotcha moment to hammer home your Woke ideology. Far from "actually expecting more posters to be able to name African languages" you were hoping that next to no-one would be able to ( Don't Google ! ).

reply

You're trolling.

reply

Whenever you have lost the argument your clutching straw of last resort is " You're trolling ".

Keelai's Report Card: Needs to do better.

reply

You hate white peoples, Keelai/WhoToTrust. why do you cares if they cant name 2000 stupid language? who care?

reply

You're trolling.

BTW, not all Europeans are white.

reply

"BTW, not all Europeans are white."

yes black call them all evil, enslavery and racist yet go live there hahahahahahahaahahhahahah.

reply

Your rant is incoherent.

reply

Afrikaans

reply

That's basically Dutch, therefore European. It's the language of the Dutch settlers.

reply

It's probably hard for a lot of people because a lot of languages in Africa didn't originate in Africa. Like Arabic and French, some of the most common languages spoken across the continent are not original to that continent.

Also, I wanted to add the language Tigre, but I admit I looked it up to confirm spelling - friend from Eritrea speaks it.

reply

2,000 languages originated in Africa. Interestingly, majority of people are having a problem naming one.

True. Most official languages like Arabic and French are originally foreign languages so they're not correct answers. Most Africans speak the official language plus 1 or 2 native African languages.

reply

Afrikans
Arabic
French
English
Swahili

reply

Swahili is correct, but that was mentioned. Arabic is Asian. The others are European including Afrikaans which is basically Dutch.

reply

Is Xhosa its own language?

reply

Yes. Very good!

reply

I only know the Xhosas because in the 1980's the right wing portrayed the Xhosas as the "commies" and the Zulus as the "freedom fighters."

reply

Zulu is also the name of another African language. You're on a roll!

I didn't know Conservatives took sides. I'll guess there was an ethnic hierarchy with the Zulus higher placed than the Xhosas who wanted equality and that's the reason they were called "commies"?

reply

I don't remember... I'm guessing the Xhosa were more enthusiastic about the ANC and got guns from the USSR and the Zulus got guns from Pretoria... I don't remember who was giving whom the "tire necklaces"

There are always "sides" just like they were telling us the Afghans were the "freedom fighters" against the USSR when these were the same guys that would go on to shelter Al Qaeda...

It's comforting to know that our stance with Iran never changes...
