What are the two MAIN ingredients that make for a GREAT movie?

Don’t worry, this is not a 500 words essay on what makes a good movie but instead just a simple and general observation as to what are the two main ingredients that make a good movie for me.

1. Credibility: I must not feel like im watching actors playing roles to make a movie. I must believe in the characters, the settings and the events.
2. Emotional impact: The movie must be able to tug at the right emotion, at the right time. If there is action going on and I don’t feel any adrenaline; failed. If someone is in depression and I don’t feel any sadness; failed. You get the concept. Many elements come into line for this one. (soundtrack, acting, directing, script…)

So no matter what the type, purpose and target of the movie are, if I don’t believe in it and it does not affect me, you can have the best actors playing the coolest characters and I still won’t be able to enjoy it.

What do you think? Did I nail it? Is there 2 factors more important to you?

For me, the main ingredients are:

1. entertainment value. It has to keep my interest and engage or entertain me in some way.

2. a good story. It has to have a good or interesting story that I can enjoy or get invested in or be amused by.

Credibility and emotional impact are nice, but they aren't essential for me.

Yeah, I don’t remember clearly what I even meant when I said that but I think I was just trying to nail what were the two main factors for me to like a movie.

In my first point I said “I must believe in the characters, the settings and the events.” So I guess that covers many aspects, having a good story being one of them. As in; if the story is good then it will have credibility. Idk.

You forgot the third ingredient: a good story. Without that, the other two aren't gonna be able to make the film work.

Yeah, like same as I said Allaby up there ⬆️.

It’s been 6 years and even I am not sure what I meant exactly.

I assume having a good story was included in point 1.

I could also assume that having a good story will automatically have an impact on me emotionally (#2) so I don’t know. 🤷‍♂️

It has to have a good story.

I could care less about almost everything else.
