I have PinkEye ;(

I woke up this morning and my eye was on fire. Thought I had stuck my thumb in it or something. Reminded me vaguely of a Billy Joel song. I was stumbling around, couldn't see, lots of pain.
Went to the hospital, no one wanted to touch me. Even with gloves on they spent minimal time in the room. Ah well.
Got some meds and I feel better.

Any of you guys had this? I'm told it's quite common.

I don't recall having it as an adult. Maybe when I was a kid. It is quite common.

reply

The doctor told me that it can be dangerous for adults. Cautioned me to see my doctor if it didn't improve in two days. But didn't say why. I was too unfocused to think to ask. Any ideas?

reply

I can only go by what I read...https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/pink-eye/symptoms-causes/syc-20376355

I wouldn't worry too much.

reply

It stresses the importance of the immune system and says that this is most common in children and adults because their immune systems tend to be weaker. I assume this is why it could be more of a concern for adults as opposed to those in their prime (16 - 25).
This certainly applies to me in my 50s with an already weakened immune response.
I will definitely pay close attention and apply my medicines accordingly.
Thanks for the information.

reply

It can make you go blind

reply

Yeah the doc said it could be dangerous. I'm applying antibiotic religiously.

reply

I had it as a school kid
It's really painful
and irritating
Certainly see your Doc as ordered

Get well Cruz

reply

Thanks for your concern Shogun. I'd always heard of this and saw it from time to time but never contracted it.
It felt like I had glass in my eye! It was so painful that I had trouble opening my other eye so there was considerable difficulty just seeing and my spacial awareness when I managed to open the other was shot to shit.
Not to mention the tears streaming down my face from irritation (notice how I made it clear that I wasn't crying lol). And my nose wouldn't stop running! That sucked. I kept walking into the shrubs while trying to walk to Mom's house for a ride to the E.R.
Thanks again, brother.

reply

That sucks, hope you feel better.

10 minutes ago, I experienced something very weird. The second I went outside, my left eye started to burn, as if something sharp got in it. I took off my contact lense, didn't see an eyelash or anything else. I used some Visine and Clear Eyes. I threw away my contact lense, but I had to do a quick task with my car. It's getting a little better now, but its frustrating to know what the hell happened.

reply

The particles large enough to irritate your your eye can be quite small due to the high sensitivity of this organ. It could be most any windblown debris. If it were spring I'd suggest pollen. And we know how small that stuff can be.
Sounds like you did all the right things to be rid of it. The lingering discomfort is likely a slight scratch on the surface of your eye. However, if it persists or gets worse please don't hesitate to contact your physician.

I was reminded today how important my eyes are and how much it SUCKED to have them compromised. Please don't waste any time if you have any more trouble with it. Thanks for your kind words, friend.

reply

I hope you get over it soon.

reply

Thanks. I'm feeling better so hopefully it'll clear up soon.

reply

Bad news, hope it clears soon mate.

reply

Yeah me too ;) At least the eyedrops have helped considerably.

reply

I had one as a kid. They are painful.

reply

It felt like I had glass in my eye. Kinda scared me to be honest. It already feels much better, thanks

reply

I'm 53. I last had it two years ago. Seems like someone says the word and I catch.
(So if I get it now I'm blaming you)

reply

Haha ;)
It scared the crap outta me. I just woke up and it was happening to me. Thought I had somehow scratched my eye in my sleep.

reply

No, never. Closest anyone in my family has had was my brother getting red eyes from rubbing dirty fingers in it all the time. He's gotten much better about washing his hands, but now I gotta worry about him stealing my liquid soap when his runs out, and he's too lazy to grab the new bottle down in his bathroom cupboard.

Just do what the doctors tell you. I hope you get better soon.

Better if you minimize contact with other people until your eye heals.

reply

True. I've always been told that it's very contagious. Both the doctor and nurse informed me that it's spread by contact tho. That's a definite plus for the people around me.
But I guess I ain't getting any nookie for a bit ;)
