"You look nice today"= sexual harassment?

Please shoot me now.

Just read that Chris Matthews retirement is due in part to comments on reporters Laura Bassett appearance, along with other complementary comments on women's appearances.. Matthews issued a apology for past comments on women's appearances.

Wow...what are we doing people?

reply

Meanwhile some young guy she finds attractive can say anything and she'd love it. That's the biggest take away here, it's only "creepy" when the person is old or "unattractive" (which basically = average these days)...

reply

Sounds like they're trying to minimize some more serious issue. Really!

This is the sort of statement that comes out when someone has been a real asshole behind the scenes, and it's being dealt with quietly, and everyone involved has agreed to refrain from making a scandal.

reply

Weponizing sexual harassment to fire a asshole is wrong.

This devalues the term, confuses many, and is a disservice to woman who have LEGITIMATELY BEEN harassed!

reply

Actually, sexual harassment is an excellent reason to fire an asshole, and if every asshole in the world understood that, the world would be a slightly better place.

Of course just saying "You look nice today" doesn't sound like actual sexual harassment, but as I said, I think this is an attempt to keep the serious issues from becoming public.

reply

I compliment people all the time. Male and female.

If people are offended by it they haven't raised it with me yet. If they did, I'd probably just laugh.

reply

Are you male or female?

reply

Let me check

*pulls open pants and glances down*

Yep, definitely male.

reply

Don't compliment women. Don't look directly at women, especially if they wear a low-cut blouse and a push-up bra that intentionally places their breasts on display. Don't tell jokes in the presence of women. Don't allow yourself to be left alone with a woman. For God's sake, don't touch a woman's arm or shoulder, or you will probably do jail time.

reply

Bill Maher, although I am not a huge fan of, had a great comment to Laura Bassett.

"I'm a friend of Chris Matthews, the guy has been married for about one million years and would like to flirt for a few seconds"

He goes on lambasting Bassett.

"Congratulations, are a now compliment survivor or compliment sufferoget?"

reply

Maybe she thought he was making fun of her, because she is a total butterface.

reply

Yep.

reply

It is stupid and over the top but that is where we are and he is foolish for going there.

reply

He is 74, I don't think he gives a shit anymore.

The great thing about reaching that age is you know you only have 10-15 years max so you can say what you think.

reply

I've noticed that. We had a man about that age going into one our branches trying to give one of the female staff flowers. She was concerned by it lol. I mean if that is the worst thing that is going to happen to you then..

I don’t even know what to say anymore. I think at this point it’s best to not say a damn word to women in the workplace, don’t smile in their direction, no more holding doors or assisting with heavy equipment...it’s now considered “insulting”, and definitely don’t say anything about their new haircut, or new clothes...even though they’ll probably get pissed about not being complimented too. Why dress up and get your hair done if you don’t want people to compliment you on it? I told our front desk worker (can’t say secretary anymore, why, who the hell knows?) her new haircut looked nice last week...I’m guessing I’ll be subpoenaed sometime next week for harassment.

When I get a haircut or new work clothes and someone says they look nice, which they do a lot...I’m going to start telling them that it’s inappropriate to say that. 😂

People are out there calling Bassett a survivor??? For this??? Really? Ok, so the comments about her being an attractive woman made her uncomfortable, fine, but a survivor??? This is getting so out of hand.

I can’t wait for the day I can sue a guy for calling me an asshole or a dickhead. Haha. There was a girl I graduated with who walked up to me in a bar about 10 years ago and grabbed me by the crotch...time to take her down. Lol.

Happy International Women’s Day everyone. People wonder why men usually die first in marriages and in general...in reality we just want to get the hell out of this madness, haha.

As I read in another comment, a 'compliment survivor' 😂

reply

Thanks to Bill Maher.... its a great line.

Bill Maher is definitely liberal leaning, he then tells Democrats/progressives...."This is why we lose."

reply

Thank god she is ok after that malicious and violent compliment on her “beauty”. She’s going to need years of intensive therapy to combat the anxiety and stress of Matthews saying she is beautiful...while at work. 🤣

reply

"Why haven't I fallen in love with you yet" was one of the comments mentioned. This is called being Flirtatious not sexual harrassment.

reply

The metoo movement has people acting a little nuts now.

I predict in a few years we will come back to our senses.

reply
