Not on my own. Growing up we had a pug. Not what you would call a guard dog! Very cute, loves people.

I’ve got a lab, she’s awesome. Border collies are incredibly smart so they require more of your time than other breeds. The last thing you want is a bored border collie on your hands!

I recommend a mutt or at least a mixed breed. Much MUCH less incidence of mental and physical issues. A very good purebreed takes an incredible amount of research and a buttload of money.
Preferably a rescue dog.
If you're determined to have a border collie check out the rescue and adoption organizations dedicated to that breed.

Do not get a border collie! I know other posters have warned you before, but it bears repeating!

You are right to wonder about huskies as well. I lived in an apartment building back in the 1980s, and there was a tenant in my building who had a pair of them. Every day, residents were treated to the comical scene of the poor bastard being pulled along by these huskies, who would be yelping and barking as if they were ready to run the iditarod.

Get a randomly mixed-breed dog from a rescue shelter or city dog pound. These dogs are smarter, have better personalities, are healthier, and live longer than pure-bred or designer dogs that cost a fortune.
