I vote yes. Although he was more committed to confusing and alienating audiences than making them laugh with any traditional forms of comedy, so I can perfectly understand why people would say no.
I never understood his appeal, either. I felt the same way about Chevy Chase. People would rave about these two guys, but I didn't get it.
shareOne of the few celebrities outside of the pro wrestling world who recognized its potential as an artistic platform. Way ahead of the curve, doing comedy decades ahead of his time.
shareI knew someone who was Andy Kaufman's roommate in Chicago, before he became famous. He told me that Andy said to him once, "You've GOT to see my Elvis Presley impression!"
"Pro" wresting has always been fake (predetermined outcomes.) The wrestlers themselves admitted this in a New York courtroom in the late 1980s. It's a shame that real wrestling, as in high school, college and the Olympics, never became a sport outside those venues.
Nobody wants to see two grown men in tights grind and sweat all over each other .. oh wait. Nvm
sharehe was mocking it.
