You can also replace bleach with vinegar in the wash.

Use a lot of detergent, and a minor amount of vinegar. Maybe dilute it with water.
shareMY "WIFE" USES VINEGAR IN THE WASH FOR VERY DIRTY STUFF...SHE DUMPS A TON OF IT IN THERE...I HAVE NEVER NOTICED A SMELL ON THE CLOTHES THOUGH.
shareI have also heard about using lemon juice or baking soda for white items. I used baking soda with bleach a few times. It worked to some extent. I want to try vinegar on my linens to see if they come out softer.

shareVinegar makes a good window cleaner.
shareNo it doesn't. My mother tried that when I was a kid, she didn't want to fork out for Windex, so we had to lug buckets of vinegar-water all over the house on window-cleaning day, and we'd smell like vinegar for the rest of the day and the whole house would smell like vinegar for a week afterwards.
Not recommended.
I use a 50/50 water/vinegar solution to wipe down my toilet. Do so daily, right before jumping in the shower. It's not the best disinfectant. Still like to use bleach once a month for that. But vinegar's nice because I can keep it in a small spray bottle by the toilet & have it always ready. Bleach would break down & destroy the bottle. She's right that vinegar works well on hardwater stains. I use TP to wipe the toilet & the residual vinegar just from that keeps the bowl clear of stains.
shareVinegar, baking soda, and salt is a great drain declogger. I have used it to clean windows for years.
