I could have done so much worse! I had a horrific childhood, and I think it actually did me a world of good to have my head filled with someone who was rational, scientific, and who never let himself be overwhelmed by his feelings. I mean I actually grew up to be a functional adult with a STEM degree, in spite of past abuse and being kicked out at 18.
