Would you spend a year in Jail for £1million
Tax free.
shareDepends on the jail! If it's a minimum-security Norwegian prison, I'd do a few years then retire. If it's a violent US supermax or a developing world shithole, no. Your average UK prison? Yes, I'd probably do a year.
shareWhat kind of beef are you blowing dude? what in the actual fuck?
shareI would definitely do a year in a minimum-security Norwegian prison for $1 million. What a great idea!
Minimum Norwegian prison = resort in the countryside
Tranquil, boating on the lake, biking on quiet roads, fresh homemade food, swimming, library, gym, movies, concerts, large house with private room, sunbathing on the beach, petting zoo, job training, surfing, horseback riding, fishing, tennis, and cross-country skiing.
Where do I sign up? Will they let me rent out a room?
Bastøy is probably what you have seen. Other Minimum security prisons in Norway are a bit more "urban" for the most part, and less likely to offer you all of that, but some still do.
The only things guaranteed are: Job training, Gym, Library, movies, and fresh homemade food. And you get to choose what you wear and what you buy in the prison commissary of course. Which is normally a grocery store on the smaller side that has a good selection of healthy stuff and bad when it comes to candy/snacks.
One of my cousins has been an Inmate at Bastøy(I have 40 cousins and he is the only one who has been to prison, we are not the Gambinos)
Your cousin lucked out.
I read they 97% serve their sentence at a higher-security prison before Bastoy. That's fine with me as long as I serve most of my year at Bastoy.
Yes, you are likely to hang out with a lot of people that did seriously fucked up stuff 5-10 years ago.
My cousin went straight to Bastøy, because his crime was non-violent and not against specific individuals. Geographically it was the closest minimum security prison, so he ended up there for 13 months.
Only if my cellmate is your mama😄
(once again, apologies to 123Guy. I just can't resist!)
No, not now.
20-25 years ago I would have. However, there would be conditions.
Namely, I get to choose the jail.
If I had to go some super maximum security violent offenders type of jail for a year - no chance.
However, one of those white collar criminal type prisons - yeah, I'd do a year there.
No, you can't choose the jail. But remember that jail and prison are different. Jails are run by the city or county. Jails are short term for misdemeanors. Prisons are run by the state for long term for felonies. Usually a year means prison, not jail.
So you'd be in prison. But there are different levels of security. You wouldn't be with max security violent types. They'd put you in the general population, minimum security. Now, that's no cake walk. And there are dangers. But once you learn the rules it's tough but you're generally safe.
HHmmm, looking at it this way.
Ok, first of all there is no chance I would do it now. Don't need the $, too old (in my 50s)
I might have done it in my 20s.
Yeah, in fact, in my 20s, just dealing with regular guys in prison - no max security violent types....
Yeah, I think I could have figured it out and blended in for a year.
So, I say yes, at that age. RIght now this converts to 1.27 mil dollars. Yeah, worth it to lose a year of a young life for that kind of cash, no taxes.
I still say a million salary is a lot of bucks for a job. I'd do it but I've been in prison before.
I mean, I was a middle class white boy and I survived. First world problem, basically.
Only if I got conjugal visits with your mother.
shareNot in US jails/prisons, hell no.
I was talking to an Australian once who told me he spent 3 months in an Aussie prison in the 2000s. He said the prisoners hang out in the "TV room" all day playing PlayStation, shooting pool, and watching movies, and that it was kind of fun.
