What did you bunkerbusters watch this week? (06/16-06/22)
Ahh, summer… it doesn’t get much better than this.
You watched movies did you? Have you seen these:
The chair (2023 YouTube): This 22 minutes short film was scary effective. I watched it at night with earphones as my wife was sleeping. Twice I had those shivers run across my entire body. Really freaky stuff. My rating: 7/10
The August incident : Shared with me by Anotherday, this short zombie film is an amateur project amongst friends so it obviously shows but it doesn’t mean I can’t review it. I didn’t care much for the documentary format but if it was Joseph’s voice narrating it would’ve been way better. Thankfully, reporter Scott was hot and brought a contagious energy for the short time he was on screen. Should’ve been more of him. As for that cop dude playing with his sleeve button, he talked way too much for too long. Lots of people talking a lot actually. I wanted more zombies! Hehe Otherwise, I don’t think I could’ve done better myself so, there is that! My rating: 4/10
Sisu (2023 Prime): Mesmerizing and captivating, gore and violent, thrilling and stressful, this WWII film was quite the treat. Quite the treat indeed! I was going for a 9 before the final plane scene. It was a bit too cartoony and ludicrous. I would’ve preferred a more down to earth and brutal outcome. Still, I strongly recommend it. 8.5/10
The dark Crystal (1982 Blu-ray): I watched it with my 9 year old son and we did not like it. Well, not at first. Then we started making fun of it and we enjoyed it more. The more we made fun of it the more it became… interesting? It’s like they tried to create the most nasty looking and disgusting puppets and although I believed in the world they created, I struggled in believing in there it’s inhabitants. As for the story, it might have been original back then and might even have paved the way for similar « quest films » but all in all, Labyrinth this wasn’t. Sometimes it looked more like a dark and ancient version of a Power rangers bad guy’s lair kind of stuff. One of the puppet even reminded of a French Canadian show I watched as a child. And that’s not a compliment. It was called Bibi et Geneviève. I mean, look at this guy: https://www.archambault.ca/Pages/Details?lang=en-ca&id=969929&cat=1884314 . I could describe the feeling watching this movie as the same feeling when you lift a rock and there’s a bunch of disgusting insects beneath but you can’t help but to look at them out of sheer curiosity and you’re sort of impressed by the nastiness. Anyways, it’s really lacking something to make it truly exceptional to my eyes. Maybe if I had seen it as a child… IDK. My rating: 6/10
Reflections of evil (2002 Tubi): A meditation on the reflections of what the fuck was this fucking movie and why did it last over 2 hours!?!?! Took me 3 frickin’ days to watch it!! T’was Fred’s recommandation… Fuck you Fred! Just kidding. I have a craving to watch the weirdest shit possible? Well that’s the price to pay. Not the strangest film I’ve seen but I’d venture a guess that it could be the case for most people that will watch it after reading this review. I won’t even say anything about the movie because frankly, I’m just speechless. You insist and you want me to say something about the film? Okey then; There’s a crazy guy with a hundred headphones, pillows under his too many shirts and he’s walking in the street selling watches he never makes profit on. (I don’t think all street people are aware they were in a film. There’s also an old couple watching TV and it has images. Very many images. There you go. One question I have is how did he get all the copyrights to show all those clips and he use all those songs?? I truly wonder. My rating: 🌜🎋🪸/🪸🎋🌛
The green inferno (2015 Prime): I have to say I fairly enjoyed this one. It’s well-made, it does with it has to do and pretty well at that. I couldn’t wait for the annoying crew to get eaten BUT, I’m taking .5 points away because spoiler: the most despicable character (leader guy) didn’t die!!!! Urgh! The thing I appreciated the most about this is the fact that it almost always take place during the day, under a bright sunshine and the cinematography is very vivid. My rating: 6.5/10
Kill chain (Friday night special): What a fraud of a movie. It pretends it has Nicolas Cage in it but it doesn’t have him very much. The first 25 minutes got me engaged only to let me down with a confusing, over-convoluted crime story. The last 20 minutes had some good violent moments but not merely enough to compensate for the drag that we had to for through prior. The settings and lighting both felt very cheap too. My rating: 4/10
Slumber party massacre (Friday late night special): It has quite a few things going for it but too many off-screen kills, darkly lit scenes and unoriginal story prevented it to impress me like the remake did. I liked the score too. My rating: 5.5/10
Final destination 2 (Saturday night special): What a pleasure it was revisiting..
