Are comic books from the 80s worth anything

Found a stack of comic books I had collected as a kid. Just curious if they were worth anything.

You could order a price guide. I’ve been wondering the same thing about mine. That sounds like a good snowy weekend project and maybe I try to come up with an estimated value for the whole lot.

Just type in the title in the search box. Happy hunting!

reply

Awesome, thanks.
I’ll give it a test run.

If you have any Fantastic Four, X-Men, Spider-Man etc, you’ll be surprised at how much folks will pay for them.

I have LOTS of the major Marvel series, all boarded, bagged and boxed. I tried your site but had trouble with it on my phone. I’ll give it a shot on the laptop.

ETA: could be that I’m using borrowed reading glasses🤓

reply

I always use my laptop for this particular site because I need to see it on a big screen 👓

Theres 15 of them that are in protective sleeves. 9 marvel comics and 3 DC all from the 80s. Also a Disney goofy one and 1other from star comics.

Give the site I suggested a go, then you’ll know for sure. Let us know the results.

Which comics?

reply

A few Indiana Jones comics. 2001 a space Odyssey by stan Lee. Some marvel. A sledge hammer comic. Those are the few I saw at glance. I didn't get a chance to really go through them all yet. All in good condition.

reply

It completely depends on which comic and what condition it is in. Look up the title on eBay. If possible see what the item has sold for, not what someone is asking (all filters>show only>sold items).

reply

Not really unless they're appraised.

Look up the individual books online (like Ebay) and you'll see the proposed price.

reply

Unless they're some particular Spider-Man or X-Men first appearance books, probably not.

reply

Don't toss or donate them.

Take the time to look up their values and if you want to sell, you can probably find a local comic store that will buy them or hit up some local flea markets and there's usually a comic guy there who will buy stuff.

Just know what you have so you don't get ripped off.

If they're from the 80s, that means they're around 40 years old, that ain't some dreck you bought at the local 7-11 yesterday.

You'd be surprised at the price some people are trying to get for some comics.

Thanks. I'll check it out.

I’ve been collecting comics since I was young. There’s a lot of stuff from the 80s that’s quite collectible - good luck!

reply

i was a marvel comics fiend in the 80s, & have kept most of my collection in reasonably good shape. not bagged, mind you, which was a mistake, but most of them are in good enough condition. just not mint like they would be if i'd properly tended to them.

a few years back i used on online price guide to try to get a fix on how much they might be worth, & was pretty underwhelmed to find there was probably only about $3k there. which isn't nothing, but i had a vague hope that maybe i'd have enough to buy a nice carbon frame mountain bike or something.

reply

I have one stack of them that kept bagged and are in mint condition. Does that effect the pricing much.

reply

Hugely.
