Reed's greatest role?

I would have to say Athos in Richard Lester's Three Musketeer movies, followed by Father Grandier in Ken Russel's The Devils. #3 would be Bill Sykes in Oliver.

The Devils - he is unforgettable as Grandier.

I liked him in Burnt Offerings too.

reply

I am a very big fan of this film.

reply

I really liked Revolver and Maniac.

I would also put Hannibal brooks, three musketeers, 4 musketeers, sitting target, the hunting party, dirty weekend, venom, the revenger, rage to kill, hired to kill, among his most enjoyable movies.

reply

I forgot about Hannibal Brooks. One of my childhood favorite war movies.

the party's over and the system were both really good too.

I have to say the scene in Burnt Offerings where Reed is doing some lawn work, drinking a beer and the chauffeur dude drives in gave me nightmares as a child. It wasn’t just the creepy chauffeur dude, the dreamlike feeling and music but Oliver Reed’s reaction that scared the shit out of me. It was the father figure broken down to nothing at the sight that was so disturbing.

Gladiator

reply

Yes! Every so often a movie comes along and an actor steals the entire movie with just one scene.

The scene in this movie where he was describing the glory and fame that comes with being a successful gladiator to Maximus was just such a scene.

reply

Definitely not his greatest role but I have to say him as the Devil in Two of a Kind (1983) was one of his most entertaining roles.
