It’s one of those things that some corporate asshole thought didnt age too well.

With all of this going on, I am still surprised that the Money For Nothing by the Dire Straits has not been "canceled."

Some people/artists need to really step up and put a stop to this nonsense.

Sadly, I've sort of lost some respect for those controlling the Queen catalog for the way their music is being sold left and right for all sorts of commercial crap. I get movies and the like, but not the everyday junk like car commercials and things like that.

Why Money For Nothing?

reply

Probably the line "Money for nothing, and chicks for free", which is hardly the worst rock lyric ever.

As for "Fat Bottomed Girls", who knows whose decisions it was. Maybe the corporate types thought today's kids wouldn't be impressed, maybe Brian is a bit embarrassed by it now that he's a phd and a knight and taken seriously.

reply

Nah, not that lyric....the other one.....(don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting it needs canceling, just surprise over how it already hasn't).

this verse....

[Verse 2]
See the little faggot with the earring and the makeup?
Yeah buddy, that's his own hair
That little faggot got his own jet airplane
That little faggot, he's a millionaire

reply

Not to mention, "He's banging on them bongos like a chimpanzee".

reply

surely thats showing respect and awe to the little faggot?

reply

Sounds like a story invented by the daily mail .

You cant have exactly the same songs as the Greatest Hits released in 1980 !

reply

A Queen Greatest hits compilation without Fat Bottomed Girls is not missing much.
Impossible to imagine the same for Dire Straits without Money for Nothing.

Try Thin Lizzy's The Boys are back in town. Imagine that flying these days.

reply

why wouldnt it ?
is there a specific line , or just the whole "subject matter"
