We weren't then and we aren't now, unless we want to start World War III in time for St. Patrick's Day. By the way, opinion polls (published in the New York Post, mind you) show a solid majority of Americans oppose sending our troops to Ukraine itself, though not presumably to neighboring NATO countries. If Biden had promised to send troops into Ukraine before the invasion you'd say he was a war monger, if he backtracked on sending them after the invasion you'd call him weak. I do believe Biden erred in saying "it depends on how much of Ukraine he takes", although he was correct in warning about the possibility of an invasion when many others were poo-pooing it.
