I agree with her generally. That they have "no purpose" may be hyperbole.

I haven't seen "First Lady". I have read that she was miscast. She probably should have turned down the role.

The problem is her accepting a Critics' Choice Award in the past. If there's adulation and praise coming from them, I guess they do serve a purpose at times. She's received excellent reviews for nearly all her work, but b/c they said something negative this time, they suddenly "Serve absolutely no purpose." And the din extended way beyond critics, b/c the performance is laughably bad, like a parody gone wrong.

As stated I haven't seen "First Lady".

It seems she was miscast. I have liked her in other films.

This is a role that was probably hard to turn down.

If she accepted a Critics' Choice Award she should not complain if she gets a bad review. I am no fan of critics.

The British actor that portrayed Barack Obama doesn't look right either. Too young and only a passing resemblance. Couldn't they get an American actor for that role?

reply

I suggest you watch the First Lady and then judge for yourself. Her "Duckface" is so ridiculous and distracting that I couldn't do anything but concentrate on her lips the whole time. I wish it was a comedy but it is a historical series that gets on your nerves. Wonder why nobody told her to stop doing that while filming!

reply

Because she is too powerful and has too many awards and people were just afraid to say it to her.

And if directors were white then they would be afraid to say to her because later she would do interview and say: "Can you imagine? One director at that show told me to stop doing things with my lips because I look ridiculous. That racist scum. Do you see how hard is it for woman of color to work in Hollywood? With such miro-aggresions?".

So they all just stood there and let her humiliate herself. And now she eats that. And I dont think she understood that its her constant whining about racism led her to this humiliation.

reply

She only likes critics when they like her films.

reply

and film studios only like rotten tomatoes when it gives them a fresh rating.

critics are overrated anyways.

Ok I went and watched trailers and clips. Yes, its that bad. First of all - Viola is 1.65 cm tall. Michelle is 1.80 cm. She is too short to play Michelle. Michelle is giant in womens world. Viola is tiny.

Second - Viola Davis is weak actress and doesnt deserve all those awards that were thrown at her. They made her some black Meryl Streep and nominate her for every role. But she always plays the same role everywhere - gloomy, depressive, boring, on the verge of crying, always dissatisfied with something and angry at everything woman. And they think its a good acting.

And here she was challenged to play completely different character - an always happy and light hearted person. Who was not walking around like she has constipation. Who was liked by everyone. And she failed because she couldnt act that. Viola’s Michelle is same grumpy, dissatisfied with something and angry at everything woman. And she did those things with lips because she tried to show any emotions. But she doenst know how. Because in all her other roles she used to not show them. She just doesnt know how to play happy and smiling person.
