weird name

Thomasin ........... first time i have heard that !

reply

Probably named for her father or another male relative.

reply

Amusingly, Anya Taylor-Joy was cast as a Thomasin in Vvitch, so definitely a name lol.

reply

Awesome film.

reply

I wonder if people ever call her 'Tom' for short? I loved her in JoJo Rabbit though.

reply

Maybe Tommi

reply

It was probably invented because Thomasina sounds dorky.

It's actually an awful name for a girl - like "Thomas son".

Ever notice how girls are often given boy's names, but nobody names their son "Shirley"?

reply

Plenty of men have feminine names.

reply

Give me an example. Plenty of parents give their daughter names like Michael or Johnnie. I've never known a boy who was given a traditional girl's name.

It's obviously a gender bias - male names good for all, female names unacceptable for a boy.

reply

I once knew a guy named 'Kelly'.

reply

"Kelly" is a perfect example of the misogynistic phenomenon. It was originally a male name meaning "warrior" in Irish. Like I said, male names always crossover and become gender neutral. Female names never do.

How many guys named Jessica or Mary do you know?

reply

I also know of a guy named 'Kim'. But no, never jessica and mary.

reply

Plenty of Koreans named Kim.

reply

she was born in New Zealand what did you expect

reply

It's an old English female name.

I have an ancestor from the 1600's that had the name.
