This is, quite literally, one of the best movies I've ever seen in my entire life.

Watching I Saw the TV Glow, the new horror-drama from writer-director Jane Schoenbrun, recalls nothing less than the experience of watching Donnie Darko for the first time.

If you love beautiful indie filmmaking and strange stories filled with genuine heart, you’ll love this film.

I SAW THE TV GLOW is a dreamy yet horror-tinged examination of the LGBTQ, specifically trans, experience that is something that nearly any ostracized teen or adult can relate to.

A film with a striking visual palette, fantastic music, a pair of breakthrough performances, and things to say about a wide variety of subjects, from sexual identity to how people engage with the popular culture of their youth

"I Saw The TV Glow" might be too queer, too dreamy, too metaphorical, or even too "pretentious" for some, but for the people who resonate with their work — it'll be the most important thing they'll see all year.

I Saw the TV Glow is a masterclass in queer storytelling whose genre ethos elevate it to new heights.

Perhaps the most visually stunning movie of 2024, I Saw the TV Glow should lift Schoenbrun to a special class of directors. They’ve proven unbelievably skilled as a storyteller and even stronger at creating lasting imagery.

It emerges as a stunning achievement whose striking visuals will linger in your mind. After experiencing such an evocative emotional epic that becomes hauntingly beautiful, you too will want to wind the tape back to play it again as soon as it ends.

Tender yet rageful, quiet yet deafening, intimate yet expansive, Jane Schoenbrun’s I Saw the TV Glow is a towering achievement of total artistic freedom.

These reviews sound too good to be true. A lot of superlatives.

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this going forward and maybe even check it out on digital at some point down the line.

It's getting a limited release tomorrow, 03rd May, with a wide release on 17th May.

reply

This sounds really interesting. I'll probably check it out.

Of course they're gonna praise the tranny's new film. They'd be bigots otherwise.

reply

Because the director is "queer" this played every festival. Normal reviews in two weeks!

I just checked this dude on Google and his twitter handle is "sapphicspielbrg". What a creep.

Also, he desperately needs to see a dentist.

I had to google 'sapphic'.

Sapphism is a umbrella term for any woman attracted to women or in relationship with another woman, encompassing the sexual orientations and the romantic love between women.

The term is inclusive of individuals who are lesbian, bisexual or pansexual, on the aromantic or asexual spectrum, or queer. There are also sapphic people who are non-binary or genderqueer.

I DON'T THINK USERNAMES ADD UP TO MUCH AT ALL.

reply

So what if their name was "PedoLover"? Would you think nothing of it?

reply

BUT THAT ISN'T THEIR USERNAME...YES...OBVIOUSLY IF IT WAS THAT WOULD BE WEIRD...EITHER A CREEPER OR A CHILDBRAIN WHO THINKS THAT IS FUNNY.

reply

I clicked on that link.

That was worse than any of your puns.

I am now Team AngryViking.

Just needed to raise awareness of the importance of dentistry.

"Their"? How many of them are there? I only see one.

reply

Inside every trans I like to picture a fight for control of the host between two or more parties. Dan had control of Schoenbrun but was ousted by Jane... perhaps Dan will get his revenge and reclaim the host. So there are at least two of them.
