Why did Mike and Carol not have kids together?

Lots of families I know who remarry end up having a baby. Why didn’t Mike and Carol have kids together to unite the family by blood?

If Florence Henderson got pregnant during the series, I bet they would have written it in. Someone high up thought Cousin Oliver was a better idea. Someone high up should have been shipped out on the SS Minnow.

I had thought I read that Florence Henderson once said she could no longer have children when the show was on.

That happened in Yours, Mine, and Ours (1968) which I believe was the concept for this show.
