Did it bother anyone else that Maude was 80?

it's completely relevant to the story and it suited her character that she's 80, and it makes this movie very different from all the other romance movies out there. But did anyone else think it was kinda freaky that he was around 18 and she was 80?

I actually thought the reason she is 80 is because of her being Jewish. In some Jewish traditions, 80 is the end of life. there is even a group of people who get bar/bat mitzvah at 93 years old, because that is 13 years after 80

I am horrified when elderly men hook up barely legal women and, though people generally recognise it as creepy, it is all too common and basically accepted. Anyone who thinks Harold and Maude's relationship is especially horrifying is probably a sexist. Older women aren't respected for their sexual autonomy in the same way that men are.

Amen!

This movie is not a documentary, you know.

Didn't see it, but 80 year old woman is way too old... and i'm the guy who would do it with older woman, like 20-30 years older, which is 40-50 yol:D 80 no way.

The increase in human knowledge is the cause of the decline of religions.

"Didn't see it": then why are you commenting?
"Harold and Maude" is one of my favorite films of all time. I even dated a woman who (in retrospect) was a lot like Maude.
Love Ruth Gordon. Love Maude. If you don't, find someone else to love. Just love someone or something. That's the whole point!

I'm only 22 but when I'm 80, I'd love to bang a young man like this. Crap, I'd bang the 20 year old character at my age. But this at 80? She rocks!! Yes, people, I understand this is fiction.

I saw the person behind those numbers as Harold did. If an older woman like Maude came across my life some day, i really hope i still will be able to see the person behind those numbers, and not letting the numbers blind me.
