So a cop could just enter your residence and snoop around?

When you weren't even home? He didn't even have a warrant or even tangible evidence that Kersey was the doer.

Almost as lame as Sinatra bribing Spinell to look around the perp's pad in The First Deadly Sin.

"Can I use her underwear to make soup?"

I noticed the same thing. He just breaks into his apartment without a shred of evidence, no warrant or anything else. Anything he finds would be inadmissible in a court of law. Stupid silly copper!

reply

They didn't want to convict him though, just find out who he was and scare him off, so the bad guys would think he was still out there. So they didn't need legal evidence.

reply

This is correct. Cops still do shady things all the time today.

reply

Yea, all cops are crooked, especially in NYC

reply

Probably illegal but he was on to something.

Inadmissible in court in any event but...he kind of knew.

reply

Dude, cops plant drugs on people today even when they know they’re being recorded by their own body cameras. Cops were way more corrupt in the 1970s when they knew that there was nobody around to record them. Of course they would break into your apartment without a warrant.
