Can anyone recommend any movies as good as this and Rosemary's Baby?

Anyone know of any 60s / 70s movies in a similar vein, or just as good and watchable as these two? Not necessarily in the same 'horror' or thriller genre, just good movies of the same era.

Coma is enjoyable. "Hammer" produced films. The Exorcist.

etc...

There are some great films from the era(my favorite era incidently). Once you start exploring you will find tons. Sadly much of the output from the period has not been made available on DVD, but there is still plenty

I just rewatched both Rosemary’s Baby and The Stepford Wives recently and it struck me that they both have the same basic storyline. The heroine was sold out/betrayed by her husband. Rosemary and Joanna tried their best to figure out what’s going on and who’s out to get them but they’re just too overpowered. Rosemary was a goner long before Joanna. At least Joanna could have taken the car and drove away once her best friend Bobbie changed.

Both Rosemary's Baby and The Stepford Wives were written by Ira Levin. You may want to check out other movies based on his works: A Kiss Before Dying (1956), The Boys from Brazil (1978) and Deathtrap (1982).

I just discovered Seconds (1966) and The Silent Partner (1976) two years ago. They’re not very well known movies but I enjoyed them so much I even rushed to buy and read the books. Both are out of print.

I also recommend the Don Siegel-Clint Eastwood gothic horror movie, The Beguiled (1971). Don Siegel, whose directing credits include Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) and Dirty Harry (1971) named The Beguiled as his favorite of all his movies.

Planet of the Apes comes to mind. Otherwise I was wondering the exact same thing.

Oh, and a comedy from that era, also starring Ruth Gordon, Where's Poppa? But it's not for the faint of heart. Extremely offensive in every respect.

The Wicker Man is kind of similar. I don't want to give away anything, but it's creepy as hell.

Race With the Devil is very good. I was going to post that movie on this thread. Good choice.

I can't think of any other movies as good as those two---Ira Levin writes excellent books and both films are wonderful adapations. Maybe "American Beauty" but that one is not in the same genre. The 1975 Stepford Wives is so superior to the remake with Nicole Kidman. Can't measure up.

Other movies that come to my mind are:

- 'Suddenly Last Summer' (with Elizabeth Taylor) - a psycholical melodrama.
- 'What Ever Happened to Aunt Alice' (with Geraldine Page) - creepy suspense.
- 'Burnt Offerings' (with Linda Black and Bette Davis) - creepy thriller.
- 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers (totally 70's) - sci-fi thriller.
- 'The Sentinel (totally 70's) - horror thriller
