Many Americans with the name Brody (or Brodie) are of Ukrainian/Polish Jewish descent. Brody may also be an Irish name, however, Lorraine Gary (maiden name Gottried) and Roy Scheider were both played by Jewish actors. Doesn't mean they are Jewish in the film necessarily, but doesn't disprove it, either.

Not that it matters. Neither of Roy Scheider's parents were Jewish. He gets his name from his Irish descended Mother (Roy00) and his Lutheran German descended father.
Brody quit NYPD to get away from hostility and misery. I doubt he would have a strong opinion on the Middle east. But then again, most of the people who comment on Palestine really only want to make it about themselves, thousands of miles away.

If Brody was a Jew who left NYC to live on and police a waspish Long Island resort, it would have been mentioned in the novel. Brody is always aware that he is an outsider. Being the Jewish chief in a stand in for Martha's Vineyard would have been a huge dimension.
