Would Brody have supported Israel or Palestine?

?

reply

Brody is a Jewish name, so, unoess he was an ultra=leftwing Jew or if he just didn't identify with his Jewish roots then probably Israel.

reply

Brody is an Irish name.

reply

Brody can also be a Jewish name. There is a town in present day Ukraine (once a part of Poland) called Brody. Many Americans with the name Brody (or Brodie) are of Ukrainian/Polish Jewish descent. Brody may also be an Irish name, however, Lorraine Gary (maiden name Gottried) and Roy Scheider were both played by Jewish actors. Doesn't mean they are Jewish in the film necessarily, but doesn't disprove it, either.

reply

Martin Brody is a common Irish name. Get real.

Not that it matters. Neither of Roy Scheider's parents were Jewish. He gets his name from his Irish descended Mother (Roy00) and his Lutheran German descended father.

Brody quit NYPD to get away from hostility and misery. I doubt he would have a strong opinion on the Middle east. But then again, most of the people who comment on Palestine really only want to make it about themselves, thousands of miles away.

Lots of Jewish people in the USA have the names Brody or Brodie. It's a fact. Whether they were born with it or changed it to sound less Jewish I have no idea. Maybe kind of like Davis, Cooper, or Gordon which originally weren't "Jewish names", but became so. I assume the name Stone was changed from Stein to sound more "Anglo".

Anyway, what does Israel, Palestine or Gaza have to do with the film Jaws, a movie about a shark made in the 70s?

.

reply

If Brody was a Jew who left NYC to live on and police a waspish Long Island resort, it would have been mentioned in the novel. Brody is always aware that he is an outsider. Being the Jewish chief in a stand in for Martha's Vineyard would have been a huge dimension.

There is a city in Eastern Europe with the name Brody, as I've pointed out. Also, it does happen that two identical names come from two different cultures. Bakshi is usually Indian, but Ralph Bakshi was not Indian. Lee can be Chinese or English. Maybe kind of like Davis, Cooper, or Gordon which originally weren't "Jewish names", but became so when Jews came to America and changed their names for various reasons. I assume the name Stone was changed from Stein to sound more "Anglo", much like Schwartz is often changed to Black, and Weiss to White.

Clearly a heeb (so what do you think?)

What does Brody supporting Israel or Palestine have to do with JAWS 2??

reply

I find it amziong that anyone can support one side or the other given the incredibly complicated history.

People who have picked a side have done so by some sort of tribal loyalty or prejudice or other bias rather then actually working out which side is right or wrong - because that is pretty much impossible.
