Urban Cowboys?

How common are country and western bars in a big city like San Francisco? Basic Instinct also had that. Always seemed unbelievable to me. I live in a border line southern state and rarely see people in cowboy hats, plaid shirts, neckerchiefs, cowboy boots, and trucker hats as there were in this movie. How many bars are all-black by the same token?

reply

They're in every city.

reply

I've never seen one in my city and I asked some other people. Name one in San Francisco or Los Angeles or New York or Chicago.

reply

Look harder.

reply

Name one in Los Angeles

is it remnants of the Okie culture that came to Cal during the great depression?

Eat the Neocons.

I'm not necessarily saying that this isn't remotely realistic, but I do find it hilariously ironic that one of the most presumably progressive cities in the United States in San Francisco, has this little section that's just one step below a Klan get together.

reply

" just one step below a Klan get together" quite the ignorant and intolerant statement.

reply

How is what I'm saying "ignorant and intolerant"? Bare in mind that I'm not necessarily saying that all country western bars are like that, just the one seen in 48 HRs.

San Jose down the road from San Francisco had a huge one called The Saddlerack. I know SF had a huge one back in the 1980s that my dad used to go to. Country music was enormous in the 1980s and 1990s. I believe Garth Brooks is the best selling solo recording artist of all time (yes, bigger than Elvis).

reply

If they had one it would’ve been dudes in assless chaps dancing on the bar. Not some blonde bimbo.

Looked more like Modesto.

Country Western Bars were very fashionable, throughout the USA, during the late 1970's and early 1980's.

Disco was highly popular during the same time period, but unlike Country Western Bars, the Disco scene was highly relegated to the large metropolitan areas such as NYC and Chicago. On the contrary, Country Western was easily found in cities of any size.
