Not a “fun” watch per say…

I watched it with my 9 year old son and we did not like it. Well, not at first. Then we started making fun of it and we enjoyed it more. The more we made fun of it the more it became… interesting? It’s like they tried to create the most nasty looking and disgusting puppets and although I believed in the world they created, I struggled in believing in there it’s inhabitants. As for the story, it might have been original back then and might even have paved the way for similar « quest films » but all in all, Labyrinth this wasn’t. Sometimes it looked more like a dark and ancient version of a Power rangers bad guy’s lair kind of stuff. One of the puppet even reminded of a French Canadian show I watched as a child. And that’s not a compliment. It was called Bibi et Geneviève. I mean, look at this guy: https://www.archambault.ca/Pages/Details?lang=en-ca&id=969929&cat=1884314 . I could describe the feeling watching this movie as the same feeling when you lift a rock and there’s a bunch of disgusting insects beneath but you can’t help but to look at them out of sheer curiosity and you’re sort of impressed by the nastiness. Anyways, it’s really lacking something to make it truly exceptional to my eyes. Maybe if I had seen it as a child… IDK 6/10

I liked it more than Labyrinth. Always have. Might be because I saw it first, in the theatre in 82, but I always thought it was more of a serious movie, and Labyrinth is a little silly.

What were you, like 2 years old!?!?

reply

Thanks, but no. I was 5.

reply

I would not make my 5 year old see that! Even less so at the theatre… these puppets be CreEpy!

reply

Lol...well I watched ET the same year. I don't think The Dark Crystal is any creepier than that.

reply

ET is waaayy less scary than this Dark Crystal thing. Way, wayyy less.

But let’s just agree to disagree. ;)

I guess different things scare different people.

reply

Do you have a movie that “scared you the most”?

Mine is Candyman

reply

Not really.

reply

Tuff girl 😉

reply

Not really. Lol. Real life scares me a lot more than movies though.

reply

I know I scared you when I wanted to show you my package!!

reply

Yeah...that was terrifying! 🤣🤣

Although I think you scared the boys more than you scared me.

reply

What was it about handyman that scared you?

reply

I was a young boy and Tony Todd haunted my dreams that night.

reply

Also checking on the release date, I was almost 6.

Saw it when it came out. Bored me to sleep.

Takes itself way too serious for a movie full of puppets.
