Don Johnson Versus Colin Farrel
Who was the better Crockett? I'd have to go with DJ on this one. Farrel acted the part like a zombie and he played second fiddle to that gangsta thug Jaime Foxx.

shareFarrell and Foxx were given nothing to do in the 2006 version, it was nice to look at but I was so disappointed with that film, probably the most disappointing film of the 2000s for me with Michael Mann directing I was expecting something on the the level of Heat or Collateral.
shareI completely agree. Couldn't have been more disappointed at Mann after how incredible Heat and Collateral were. Blackhat was worse, even further of a letdown.
shareMy expectations were lowered drastically after Miami Vice, I remember going to see Public Enemies with low expectations and being surprised at how much I liked it but it’s still not in the same league as his other stuff, haven’t seen Blackhat so can’t comment.

Yes, the basic driving idea behind the 2006 movie was to take MIAMI VICE and strip away everything that made it unique, innovative and great. Godawful, pointless movie.
shareI find it remarkable that Michael Mann didn't really understand Miami Vice is steeped in the 80's. The clothes, the cars, the music, the editing, the ludicrous plots and stories. That was Miami Vice. How did he miss that?
While the movie may be good; it was not Miami Vice.
Lot of older creators lose touch with their younger selves and when they go back and try to retap the magic, it's always a disaster. It's way worse when they a director goes back and re-edits one of the movies that made them famous.
shareAgreed, particularly about the world's most successful toy salesman, Uncle George.
shareDJ, CF was rubbish, and so was the film.
shareDon Johnson was convincing as a Florida cracker. Colin Farrel was not.
shareFarrell looked like he was trying too hard, and him and Fox had no chemistry together. I could buy Johnson and Thomas as friends. Farrell and Fox acted like they just met each other
shareBoth
