Detention on a SATURDAY ? Never happens. No logic at all.

Some schools do it.

I had it.... it was long and boring. Worst part: we weren't even allowed to do our schoolwork.

The no schoolwork thing is astonishing to me

It's a SCHOOL f'crissakes

Mind you, I don't doubt this existed nor that there was some idiotic rationale like, "forcing them to consider their behavior" or "understand the importance of punishment" or some such shit

I actually worked in education with both teachers and school administrators, so I'm well acquainted with the silos they seal themselves into. A place that supposedly encourages learning and open minds is often run by closed-minded people who THINK they're open-minded.

Anyhoo, sorry to rant. It's just so obviously muddle-headed, yet completely believable

It's an american thing.

I went to high school in the 80's and had to go to one Saturday detention. You either chose 5 hour long detentions during the week or went to one on Saturday that lasted the entire day. My detention was held in the cafeteria and was pretty boring. Nothing cool happened. We couldn't even talk.

I was a senior in high School when this movie came out. I personally have been to Saturday detention 4 times. For truancy. And if you didn't attend the Saturday detention, you would be expelled.

I was only in detention once in highschool 2006. I do not know if we did have Saturday Detention. I gotta say though that detention wasn't much of a punishment since they let me and the other kids do their homework which is what I would have done anyway right when I got home. Yeah I was one of those rare kids who did their homework right after getting home from school. Funnily enough all my siblings were the opposite of me and waited til 9pm to do their homework.

So, you’ve been to every school in the nation I take it?

reply

I went to a few different high schools since we loved a lot. I know for sure one did Saturday detention. But you were put to work scraping gum from tables and desks, shelving books in the library or even cleaning the bathrooms and locker rooms
