I never understood all the hatred for the third one. As a stand alone, it's a very good post-apocalyptic action movie. It's like the "Army Of Darkness" of the Mad Max world. Just don't go comparing it too much to the first 2.

Road Warrior by far.

Road Warrior 8
Mad Max 7
Thunderdome 6

As someone mentioned, Thunderdome got a little too cutesy. Felt like they were wanting to move in a more family oriented direction, a la Indiana Jones. On its own merits it's a decent movie, but as a continuation of the others, a clear letdown for me.

Mad Max is my favorite. So original for it's time; and there was no cgi. Scared me thinking people could be so mean like that. Yea, the first Max.

Same here. The Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome are entertaining, but I think the first Mad Max is the best film of the three.

I like the first one because it's the most messed up. But I rewatched Mad Max 2 today, and it's great. I'd forgotten how brutal the final battle is. Almost all the good guys die unglamorously at the end. You'd think they'd get heroic deaths, but no. Not even the Warrior Women, who'd been quite prolific in action scenes up til then. She fires a bolt, but it only wounds one of the raiders, then Wez gets her in the gut straight afterwards.

1) Mad Max - Was the original, back when Max was a normal person with normal emotions, and it gets turned to hell when his family's brutally murdered. Then he goes on a vengeful rampage. Plus the gang, esp. Toecutter, were psychotic and evil! The movie, while sort of low-budget, was balls out!

2) Road Warrior - Pretty brutal gang chasing after the fuel, tho not as "evil" as the biker gang in the original. Max is a "shell of a man", understandably after loosing his family. Great battles, and nice to see Max regain at least some humanity. Tho at times I wanted to slap him for not bonding more with the Gas-tribe people. What else has he got?

3) Beyond Thunderdome - Definitely my least favorite, tho it's not 'bad' either. The gang wasn't nearly as badass this time around (Aunty's gang); almost comical to be honest. The Thunderdome fight in the first half was kind of cool, and it was interesting to see him help the tribal kids in the second half (and nice to see Max finally regain his humanity back). But I dunno....seems kind of tamed down compared to the first two.
