Heard so much about this...

and finally watched it for the first time.

It's a good watch. Really interesting mythology.

Christopher Lambert's accent is a bit annoying, since it's supposed to resemble a Scottish accent.

But other than that, the film is enjoyable.

I GREW UP LOVING THIS MOVIE...TO THIS DAY I WILL WATCH ANYTHING WITH LAMBERT...SHAME HE MAKES MOSTLY TURDS...EVERY 5 OR 10 YEARS I ATTEMPT TO ENJOY THE SECOND ONE...THUS FAR IT HASNT HAPPENED.🤔

reply

i found out about one he made in 85 called subway the other day.
tried watching it, but its in french

reply

But it will have English subtitles, so what's the problem?

It's a good little movie, one of Luc Bessons earlier movies. It has a nice, understated sense of humour, is beautifully shot and has a great score by Eric Serra.

Give it a chance.

reply

Lambert's accent was meant to resemble a person who has a mixture of multiple accents over a long period of time, supposedly.

reply

It's explained in the blu ray BTS stuff. They wanted him for the role because they thought he was great in Greystoke... in which he virtually never spoke. By the time they found out he didn't speak English and would have to learn over like a weekend and then speak it through his bizarre French/Swiss accent, they didn't mind.

reply

I agree, a good watch

reply

It’s from...lots of different places.

reply

Amazing film !

reply

Not only places... but times... wasn't MacLeod born like in the 1500s?

reply

Yeah I watched for the first time the other night and understand the following it has. I had no idea it had so many sequels even though I'm sure they do little justice for this one.

reply

Don't bother with the sequels, they are terrible!

reply

"they are terrible"...eh, not really. The continuity of those sequels is terrible but they're pretty entertaining films in their own right.

reply

The series was pretty good as long as you can overlook how it ignored the ending of this movie altogether.

reply

Highlander II is horrible - less so in the "Renegade Edition" but it stays a polished turd.

Keep the first one in good memory, avoid all sequels.

reply

It's such a shame because I really loved Adrian Paul as a Highlander. He had some awesome fight sequences because he's a legitimate martial artists and swordsman in real life, so there was always an authenticity to his fight scenes, which helps a ton in a series about immortal swordsmen who decapitate people to gain their power.

The problem is that Highlander: Endgame and Highlander: The Source are just outright awful movies, and it's impossible to enjoy them due to horrible writing and stories. Even Donnie Yen couldn't save Highlander: Endgame, and he obviously had the best fight scenes throughout the entire film.

reply

At least Endgame still felt like a Highlander movie, The Source on the other hand.....ugh, I don't know what the hell that was.
