The music is as big change from Goldsmith and Horner work. Its more playful and it reminds me of the music from movies like "a Christmas Story."

shareTotally agree. I’ve always felt that way about the score for this movie... In fact, that’s one of the reasons I’ve never really cared too much for this movie. After Goldsmith & especially Horner’s sweeping score from II & III, the score for IV always felt out of place. To be fair, there are some parts of the Main Title score sequence that I do like, but overall it just didn’t fit. At least for me.
Gone was the dramatic fantasy feel from I-III, & in its place was a more (out of place) swashbuckling style.
I’ve always loved the Film scores for the first three films. But IV...never was, never will be a fan...
