Liberals still don’t get this

They think it’s about the aliens. Lol, subtlety and metaphors are foreign to the religious woke.

reply

No liberals have long recognised that the imposed ideology to consume and be good consumers above all else is akin to letting an alien intelligence strip your planet's resources.

It's usually the right who come out with their usual shit like "The aliens are the jews".

reply

Liberals as in the masses should have a living wage, i.e. the masses should get to consume stuff?

reply

"the imposed ideology to consume and be good consumers above all else"

reply

I hope you don't consume TV shows and movies!

reply

Ah. Another respondent who is reading averse.

".... be good consumers above all else"

reply

Liberals don't get ANYTHING, so that's not very surprising.

reply

Too true. They still don’t get that Russiagate was a completely fabricated conspiracy theory. Sad!

reply

"Liberals still don’t get this"

oh the irony
subtlety and metaphors have clearly flown right over your head
Consumerism and capitalism that the film is criticizing are your Republican CORE VALUES
you couldnt have missed the point by a wider margin.

reply

Projection...

reply

What liberals today don't understand is that they've morphed into the Republicans of the 1980s, with the exception of a couple of things like the promotion of trans rights to give the superficial appearance of old-time liberalism.

reply

Many such cases.

reply

You should look up the political affiliation of the director, who has openly stated that he made this film as a critique against Reaganomics and the Reagan administration.

reply

Irrelevant point.

reply

How so? Is this satire or something?

reply

Reagan had Free Trade polices (among others) that were done in good faith and with the hope of improving the lives of Americans.

That policy did NOT give the results that were expected/promised.

We can see that clearly now. It has been clear for quite some time.

Trump is, a very slow response by the republicans to change that policy.

THe dems are now the ones fighting against that, to keep the Reagan policies in place.

Oh, and as we have seen the results of the policies, it is increasingly hard to see how they can be motivated by Good Faith intent to help the lives of Americans.

So, what are they up to?

reply

You are 100% correct about John Carpenter. He's a hero of mine in the film realm, and I agree even still with many of his critiques of the USA. But he hasn't changed with the times and, like so many, fails to see the fascist tendencies he complains about that now are entrenched in the Democratic Party. He'll simultaneously claim Trump is a real danger while saying nothing about how close we are to nuclear war now thanks to the utterly pointless war in Ukraine that we fund. "Pointless," that is, to the vast majority of the American people who don't benefit from it financially like those in DC. The disconnect that old time liberals like Carpenter have with today's political reality is pretty sad. But, in his case unlike so many others, I think he actually does mean well. He's just mentally trapped in 1988.
