I can't believe nobody made this comparison. Both are some what similar, came out in 1990 and one is forgotten (Problem Child) while the other (Home Alone) is ingrained in public conciseness. Nobody ever remembers Michael Oliver whereas Macaulay Culkin is still muched talked about. I think Home Alone is by far the superior one here

I like both. Problem Child 1 and Home Alone 1 and 2 are all good.
shareBoth are from 1990, but this was a summer film whereas Home Alone was a holiday film. Anyway, I think either Problem Child movie (haven't seen 3) works better as a pure comedy, it's just that Home Alone was designed more to resonate with kids via a more child-centric perspective and indulgence of fantasies. Ben is as much the protagonist as Junior is and he does get more character development, at least in the first film. I'm not entirely sure most parents would have wanted their kids to watch the Problem Child movies in the first place, so that wouldn't have made this much of a blockbuster.

I actually liked Problem Child more. I could never stand Culkin.

It's like comparing apples to oranges, Kevin may have misbehaved after getting provoked by his siblings on that specific night, but overall he wasn't that bad of a behaved child, Plus they both had entirely different plots, and PC had a much darker undertone theme to it IMO, which is the kind of negative effects that abandonment, negligence, and lack of compassion can have on a child!!

I prefer problem child over home alone, only because home alone tried to be preachy and heartwarming. Problem child is just an all out comedy flick with better character development and memorable characters.
