This guy is unaware of acting subtly. He always speaks likes he's angry at everything.
shareHe might grow on you. I found his acting amusing. There is a shift at some point maybe halfway through the show where he noticably improves.

I thought he was playing an over the top and overeager teen-ager. The actor didn't have anything to base his performance on. I mean, there were no other teen Ferengis in Trek up to that point.
The actor seemed, at least to me, that he was doing his version of how a young Ferengi would behave. He also wanted to be friends with Jake Sisko and having a human friend was a new experience for him too. He didn't know how to act around humans.
