If you cant answer these then this movie was pointless (spoilers)

If you can answer me these questions about the movie, maybe I'll stop bagging it & respect it more, they are simple questions that every movie-goer should be able to answer when they go to see a film that actually has a plot that wants to convey a point or message (who, what, when, where, why)? I cannot comprehend a 7.5 rating on IMDB!

Who built the "cube"? Don't say the government unless you can answer...

Why was the "cube" built? Based on my understanding all you need to be is good with numbers, to survive the cube. Was it built to haven criminals because if so then all you need to be is good at maths, or suffer from autism? How are people determined, "valid" to be shoved in this cube?

How was the "cube" built? Don't say it was done my multiple companies, because surely not one person would ask-"why are we designing massive cubes, with torturous items in them?". Give me logic to how the "cube" moves, because I dont see a machine powerful enough to move 200 different cubes? At the edges of the cube why is there nothingness? Surely nothing could suspend a cube this big above ground? Tell me what could hold it up? How high up could they be & how would the government explain for the cost of a multi-billion dollar cube if in fact the government designed it?

What is the purpose of the "cube"? Give me a good reason other than the director trying to entertain the audience with the most gruesome deaths imaginable.

My rating is 1/10 for not going anymore than 90 mins...I don't care about how entertained you guys were if a movie follows no logic, no reason & no purpose then surely you either don't deserve to have an opinion about any films or have had a lobotomy!

If you truelly deep down in your heart loved this movie passionately, my real question should be...when are you going to jump off that cliff in front of you?

oh you got a murderous rage in you!

I am late but, what the hell.

Your questions show that you should rate it 1/10 and move on. This movie is not for you. You did not understand it and probably never will.

The movie is existentialist in nature. It just throws a couple of people into a strange situation in which they are isolated, desperate, afraid and disoriented and then let's us see how they react to it and at the same time confronts the viewer with the question how they would react to it.

And for that, you do not need to know who build it or why. It doesn't matter.

I was just going to comment and say, it's very existential - but the poster above me said it. There is no reason. Regarding existentialism: "Questions such as death, the meaning of human existence and the place of (or lack of) God in that existence are among them. By and large, the theories of existentialism assert that conscious reality is very complex and without an "objective" or universally known value: the individual must create value by affirming it and living it'

Sometimes the difference between self-amusement and self-actualization is less than you think.

It seems to me your only motive is to point out the flaws in our arguments and prove us wrong for even liking it. Well, to answer this for you, we liked what we saw and experienced during the movie, and I understand that it isn't necessary true for everyone. You can do your research in the sequels, especially Cube Zero, if you really want your questions answered, as to how the Cube is operated and who's behind it (though you won't really get to see the Big Brother). If you ask questions to what you really don't need to know, then it is pointless. What's appealing about Cube is that it doesn't need to explain why everything happens, and the mystery should remain so. Some Cube fan couldn't careless about the sequels (I'm a cube fan and I did watch the sequels, but make no comparison to the first one).

There are no answers and that is the point. To quote Vincent in Ronin:

No questions. No answers. That's the business we're in. You just accept it and move on.

The world is yours & everything in it. Its out there; get on your grind & get it.

The ending was as stupid as the OP's questions. Ambiguous ending? No, lazy ass writing. Happens way too much the past couple decades. Otherwise I liked it.

The cube is into an electromagnetic trap itself, suspended. Each room could just as well float around if the computer didn't direct them into conforming with a pre-arranged grid. I designed the darn thing, so I would know.

As for the purpose of it, I was bored and thought I could do much better than that Jigsaw fella.

=======================================
What kind of movie are you?

reply

Its aliens you *beep* idiots. Its said under trivia in the original script there was a point where they find alien food....and there WAS something outside. The film maker got rid of the last scene burnt the last copy or something. But i am sure its Aliens from another planet trying to gauge the intelligence of other species in order to see which one will be somehow useful to them ie alien impregnation. If you don't like my theory well suck on it, keeps the saliva flowing ;D

reply

You must have one hell of a "theory", my friend

I wouldn't know; I thought the movie was awful and it still upsets me that I wasted a Friday night on it.

reply

you are just not capable of understanding it that's all.. ;)

reply

It's a horror, thriller movie that mean it has to be and it will be pointless.

reply

I agree with all of this. This film was useless, it made no sense. Total waste of time.

reply

Awww, was the ickle baby sad that this film didn't follow the cliche, Hollywood 'happy ending' narrative. Grow a brain, moron!

Blame Rik and Ade for my bad language, they influenced me.
