The IT Crowd.

I could have posted this on the IT Crowd board, but I'd just get flamed, so I'm posting it here. Am I the only one who thinks the IT Crowd is just a really crap version of Black Books? Everyone seems to love it, but it's rubbish!

reply

People have different opinions, my friend.

I think, after seeing Black Books, my expectations for the iT crowd were too high and it didn't deliver. I can see what you mean, but I still like it. Out of the two, Black Books is definitely the king though!

reply

I saw "The IT Crowd" first, so my expectations for "Black Books" are too high and it's not delivering. I'll keep watching, though, and hope it begins to grow on me.

Isn't this a bit of an odd comparison...IT Crowd is about geeks set in an office environment, and Black Books is about a rundown bookstore populated by oddballs.

Why the need to even compare them?

reply

Not comparing the setting, just comparing the quality.

reply

what roguemail means is you are comparing apples and oranges.

Well, the OP is anyway

Did you finish the show?

I love Black Books and I have since I first saw it. Bernard is essentially a male version of me, so maybe thats why... (pathetic, hahah)

I saw IT crowd when it came out. I had no expectations and I (definitely) didn´t expect something along the lines of Black Books.

I absolutely adore IT crowd! Me and my friends are total nerds quoting the series too often :D Have now bought the series and I can watch it again and again.

But...

I can say the exact same thing about Black Books. Bought the box, watch it again and again and me and my friends have beer nights watching it.

Anywho... I can see the whole "a couple of friends/workmates being against the establishment"-thing being alike in the two series, but to me, the whole atomsphere and type of humour is different.

But...

I don´t really care. I love both series and I love the way Bernard/Roy are such utter misfits that I can identify with :D

Why would it be a problem if the two series have similar premises? I don´t get why you´re so angry about it. Just enjoy the series for what they are and laugh your head off... hahaha....

I just watched It crowd's first episode and after Black Book.
Black Book definetly wins for me simply hilarous and clever.
But ı never thought IT crowd was a crap version ı dont know ı dont see any resemblance

reply

Skip it crowd series 1, it doesn't represent any of the comedy status. Skip to season 2

Thanks for this.

I tried watching The IT Crowd a couple of years ago, right after I discovered and fell in love with Black Books. I think I watched two episodes. I was monstrously disappointed. I'll try again, starting with the second series.

Black Books, Spaced, The IT Crowd, all in the same weird world realm of awesome.

I loved The IT Crowd but I've only seen little bits of Black Books. Think I'll watch it in its entirety soon.

reply

I find both of them funny.

I've watched a couple of episodes of 'The IT Crowd' & although I found it amusing, don't quite get the massive love for it. Then again, I had to watch 'Black Books' a few times before I fell head over heels...

I like both shows, the problem I think is that some people have is that people make direct links between the characters for example Roy and Bernard, however they don't really match up Roy would not read books but he would go out to parties on a regular basis the complete opposite of Bernard.
