Potentially more appeal to boys than girls...

But sadly many will be put of by the fact that the main character is a girl. I am a male and I think this movie is amazing the way it is and has much of the creepy macabre stuff that boys probably like more than girls. I reckon it could have possibly been more sucessful with a boy main character for this reason, not that I would personally change anything about it.

Not quite sure about that. I know tons of girls who are into creepy things, and I know a lot less guys who like creepy stuff. I loved the movie Coraline, a boy character would've ruined its sales because a girl fits the mood better than a boy if you know what I mean... the issues that Coraline has in the movie are more issues that girls have than guys, such as parent issues, boredom, and cool clothes.

This is my eight year old nephew's favourite movie. I love it too, and I'm a 28 year old woman.

That is honestly the silliest thing I've read all day. Who says girls can't like "creepy" stuff? Males and Females can like the same things you know. There is really no difference between us at all. The only reason why society thinks we are different is because we've been culturally brainwashed to have girls like one thing and boys like the other. And there is nothing wrong with having a female protagonist in the role, and there are boys that are more open-minded than that, that can love movies with a female lead. There are lot's of boys already that do love Coraline.

By the way, I think the times are already changing, slowly but they are. I mean just look at two series of books and films so far, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" series and the "Hunger Games" series. Both of those have female protagonists, BUT right now they are HUGELY popular among males and females alike. The Hunger Games have practically become the next "Harry Potter" phenomenon.

WTF?

You say that you enjoyed it, and that you are male.

Dude, you seem to be apologizing for liking it. Man up, and let us gals (and boys) enjoy a perfectly good horror story.

Because, of course, there are so many family-friendly horror stories featuring a female protagonist.../sarcasm
