Ghost in the Shell Ruined Me... HELP!

Okay, so here is my problem. After I finished Ghost in the Shell there was nothing else for me to watch. It was, in my opinion, the most intelligent sci-fi (anime or otherwise) that I've ever seen. Since there is no more for me to watch I'm left with a gap. I want to watch more great science fiction anime but it seems like what I find is too close to fantasy. Cowboy Bebop seems closer but I need to watch more.

I don't know guys. I guess I just want more GitSness in my life. Any suggestions? I seriously might need to do (shudder) fanfiction. Please help.

OP i know his movies aren't sci-fi but try watching all of Hayao Miyazaki movies then you will have a wider approach on the anime genre.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but Ergo Proxy is an anime with that Ghost In The Shell/ Blade Runner kind of feel to it.

Not sure whether this is to your liking, but I found "Mouryou no Hako" quite good.

Yes! Most def. play the games metal gear solid. GitS and MGS are very similar in many ways. Influence of technology on society is the main theme. It's very philisophical and very Japanesk. Play them all, MGS 1 (on the ps1) MGS2 and 3 (on the ps2) and MGS 4 (on the ps3) which I just finished playing, was freagin awesome. I think if you have PS 3 you can download all the olders games online via the ps3. On a side note: the MGS series is not your typical game. Sometimes, it feels like you playing a movie. But if you want the full epic story, you shouldn't skip the cut scenes. At times it does become a bit frustrating, but its tot. worth it. Hope you enjoy it dudio!

I always say this is THE show that ruined anime for me. Nothing I've ever seen since has ever come close to being as good.

I'd have to admit. Cowboy Bebop absolutely amazed me. But it was too short. Had it continued it may have surpassed GitS as my all time favorite anime.

FullMetal Alchemist and FMA: Brotherhood were very very good. But not like Gits.

I'm going to try to start watching The Legend of the Galactic Heroes. So far I've only seen the first few episodes. There' over a 150 and there are no existing english dubs. I know how to read. So that's hardly a problem. But, I often find I'm multitasking and that's simply something you can't do if you have to be reading every word. You can't look away or think about anything else for a single second or you'll have to stop and rewind every 20 seconds. It will be hard but the show has already been so good. I'll have to find the time.

Thanks to all the people who already posted all the great suggestions. I've still got more to check out so thanks for keepin' 'em comin'. I appreciate it and I'm sure OP does as well.

I have to echo the Ergo Proxy recommendation, it's probably the closest anime out there to what you're looking for. Also, even though it's steampunk not cyberpunk, Last Exile nearly equals GITS in sheer quality of animation, setting, and storytelling.

Have you tried Babylon 5?
