hahahaha wow can't believe people thought Django would suck!
Its Tarantino man! And Leo was great in it, just as he is in many other movies. Christoph Waltz was the standout though!
And Leo had the accent spot on, was in South Africa myself for the last few months

Believe it or not there are those of us who do not view DiCaprio as God's gift to acting.

He is an average actor who is more boy than man. From my POV he is not very convincing and is not all that memorable. He is not natural in front of the camera and it is obvious he is acting. I am not blown away by him and I find him dull.

Two of my favorites are Bob Gunton (Better known as the warden in 'The Shawshank Redemption') and the late Vic Morrow. BOTH of them blow Leo out of the water. Gunton has appeared on Broadway and was nominated for a Tony Award twice. It takes an astounding amount of talent to be on B'way and there ain't no way in hell Leo could pull that off. Gunton is convincing and has greater range.

Vic Morrow, God rest his soul,was also very talented and could convey numerous emotions with just his eyes. He had a true screen presence and was always believable. HE was exciting to watch,and he did well as a director too. He was a man's man, not a boy trying to be a man. DiCaprio is too boyish.

Insulting and vilifying people who don't like DiCaprio is stupid,childish and even a little creepy. Get a grip.

I don't lambaste people who don't agree with me.

Unnatural? Am I to take it you thought he should play J.Edger as happy go lucky, Howard Hughes as mellow and relaxed? Idiot. The characters he plays are not relaxed. When he does play those types of characters he can be totally natural.

I see this ALL the time on IMDB -- and it's gotten a lot worse over the last 7 or 8 years as everyone has computers now, and teenagers are ALL OVER this *beep* site (when there was a time it used to actually be adults).

But, I say that to say this: The creepiest thing in the world is when people defend actors because they are (1) infatuated with their lives, (2) don't understand acting for what it really is to discern the difference between good acting and sub-par acting, (3) let personal feelings over them (whether sexual or not) cause them to stick up for them on imdb threads in a way that they get offended when anyone makes a fair critique of their work.

You, Stewart46217, have managed to do all of those things. The guy you insulted simply stated his opinion, and a good valid opinion it was. AND, i'm a fan of Leo's however I like him more for the scripts he has chosen and movies he was in rather than his true acting ability.

Your post is old, but this is still relevant. Here's my thing:

Some people say these things, but what they really mean is "I don't like the person". Sometimes they have no good reason to dislike the person, sometimes they do. But when they feel this way, they're not going to like their films and would even go so far as to say that the person can't act.

The same goes for Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. In some peoples eyes, they just can't win.

I know a woman who recently dumped on Gravity, which is a great film. She won't admit it, but I think she was predisposed to not like it because she hates Sandra Bullock. I already know that she doesn't like Serenity because she hates Summer Glau. Too bad.

So Leo gets a lot of flack even in the face of the fact that he is indeed a fine actor.

I recommended The Departed to a friend not to long ago and he immediately said "I'm not a big fan of Leo ...". I wanted to say back "I'm not asking you to be--I just said that this is a good film".

Curious: is she still your girlfriend 2 years later?

What a strange thing to say spider1777, as DeCaprio is not an actor. He does reasonably well in movies considering the fact he can't act, but your girlfriend is right. You're the on that needs to be straightened up. Hopefully she dumps your sorry a#s.
