Name One Movie That Has a #5 Girl Get a Guy Who’s a #10?

Just asking. I think in Hollywood that would be considered Science Fiction. SWAMP THING does not count.

reply

Babycakes is the first one that comes to mind for me. It's an older movie and has Ricky Lake (back when she was a big girl) as a girl that falls in love with and snags a really hot guy (Craig Sheffer). It's a little twisted in parts and pretty cheesy, but it is a good example of a not-so-hot girl snagging a hot guy.

Do you know how "search" works? You're on IMDb; use it.

Babycakes? Are you talking about Crybaby, lol? Or Hairspray? Both could have had the 5 girl with the 10 guy-babycakes?
I am trying to propose that rather than mocking ("lol") a valid and on-topic film suggestion, you could instead take the opportunity of already being here on the IMDb to familiarize yourself with the suggested film.

Don't you know that in Hollywood beautiful women are desirable possessions to be acquired along with expensive cars and watches as a symbol of success?

To answer your question, though, Shallow Hal comes to mind, but it's kind of a cheat since we see so much of her inner Gwyneth Paltrow, and she only gets Jack Black.

How about "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" Juliette Lewis and Johnny Depp.

"If everyone loves you, you're probably not doing anything important."

reply

I don't think he is any more attractive than she is. But then, I never understood why Johnny Depp was ever considered such a heartthrob to begin with.

Now, Strange Days (i.e., Juliette Lewis and Ralph Fiennes) - yes.

My karma ran over your dogma.

reply

Um, I think people are missing the point. What OP meant was a movie like this where the focus is an unattractive/moderate person having a very attractive person fall in love w/ them.

and it's sad that I can't think of any. The only one that comes close is Bridget Jones Diary.

I mean every is naming girls that are less attractive than their the actors playing their partners, while what i think the OP meant was name movies like She's out of My League, I Love You Beth Cooper, all Judd Apatow movies, and dozens of 80's movies. Movies where the movie focuses on how much of a loser the female lead is and how perfect the male lead is.

And I can't name any b/c they don't exist. Easy A, and She's All That don't count b/c both actresses in those movies were hot.

Okay. I guess I'm being too vague, so I'll make it plain.

1) OP made an ironic thread asking people to name a movie like She's Out of My League except with the main roles reversed.

2) Everyone starts naming female actors that were less attractive than their male counterparts.

3) Movies that everyone named weren't anything like what the OP was asking for

4) Movies like what the OP was asking for don't exist.

Seems a bit rich to expect exact replicas, that any movie that doesn't follow the same story where we FOCUS on the unattractive nature of the main character doesn't count.

The reality is there are plenty of movies where an unattractive or seemingly average girl ends up winning over the "hot guy", and the fact that her looks aren't harped upon doesn't negate its value.

reply

How? I can name at least 10 movies off the top of my head with this exact premise.

The fact that it's so hard to name at least one with the reverse is quite telling. That was also the point of this thread. That this cliche is tired and annoying.

reply

Quite telling? What, that men and women are different, with different life experiences, needs, wants and expectations? You're right. Surprisingly there are also a lot of action movies featuring a really masculine cast, and movies about high school cheerleaders with a female dominated cast. How "telling".

There are movies with a similar premise with a different perspective tailored toward a female audience, that should be enough unless you're just looking to pick at any little problem you can find.

reply

Ah, deflection. We're not here to discuss the differences between men and women. The OP asked a simple question about movies.

There are movies with a similar premise with a different perspective tailored toward a female audience, that should be enough unless you're just looking to pick at any little problem you can find.

And OP was asking you to name a few.

Also, there's a bunch of action movies starring nerdy or non physically imposing male leads as well. So that statement is false.

reply

Actually thats EXACTLY what we're discussing. Oh well, forest, trees.

There have been many named. Why repeat them again for your benefit? Read the thread you lazy twat.

Yes there are, and those action movies take a different angle, exactly like what I'm talking about.

reply

I did read the thread (long before you decided to necro it) and the only thing that matched OP's description was Bridget Jones and the hilariously ridiculous She's all That. Even movies like Corrina, Corrina don't count since Whoopi Goldberg wasn't presented as undesirable or significantly less attractive than Ray Liotta.

Keep dodging the question, though. I won't be responding to any more of your increasingly combative responses.

reply

Congratulations, you named a few. Problem solved.

Whether you agree with the rest or not is subjective nonsense, and nobody really cares for your opinion on whether it does or doesn't meet your set of criteria since your grasp of the bigger picture is clearly null and void.

Enjoy not responding to me as much as I'll enjoy not having to read your inane response. Everyone wins!

Pretty in Pink(allthough I don't think Andy is a 5, but in the movie she sort of is, next to Blane)
She's all that
Sixteen candles
Muriels Wedding
The Breakfast Club(Ally Sheedy + Emilio Estevez)

reply

Ally Sheedy a 5? Are you serious? Okay maybe their roles in the movie made it seem like he ought to be thought of as more attractive than her, but really she is just as attractive, except in a unique kind of way.

I also just realised how ironic it is that Molly Ringwald is supposed to be really pretty in The Breakfast Club, but then only average in Sixteen Candles and Pretty in Pink. It's like they thought they could dull her attractiveness by putting her next to more attractive male costars, which sounds logical in theory, but makes no sense in reality and the extended Hughes universe.

I only do it with superheroes.

reply

Agreed. They had to try really hard to make Ally Sheedy look the way she did. Her character was definitely a 5, but the actress wasn't. Then again, with his daddy issues, Emilio's character wasn't a 10 by any stretch. And what is he? 5'-2"?

Not sure what you're complaining about, onlytrey. . .

If you just look at the top of your post you'll see quite clearly what the OP was asking for:

"Name one movie that has a #5 girl get a guy who's a #10"

That's it, plain and simple.

reply

These (horrid) numbers rating someone's appearance only exist per beholder, and I don't believe the thread starter was asking for people's opinions on any old film relationships.

This film is about a heterosexual relationship where he believes himself to be of a lower 'number' than her, and onlytrey and the original poster are asking for films in which this scenario is gender-inverted; Where it is the romantic focus of the film that there is an attractiveness gap, not just our opinion of the actors.
