This is preemptive, but does anyone care about the GOT Prequel series?

I don't. I know Martin, and the DB's are listed as Executive Producers for it, but in Hollywood that could mean they just show up on the set a couple of times and say, "looks good!," and then leave.

I checked the pedigree of the new team behind this project and I can't say it inspires any anticipation for me.

Sequels - it's like star trek sequels - lame and boring.
Having said that - there was one GOT game (not telltale) and it had a pretty interesting story - with interesting characters and plot twists - but that was more of a side-story, but it was decent and worth watching in TV format. I have a feeling that the prequel show is going to be 10 times worse.

reply

I'm not particularly interested.
But isn't Naomi Watts starring in one of them? I might give it a try just because of that

reply

Yeah Watts is confirmed for this, which is a plus. But for me, I'd like to have more trust in the "creative" team, and there I don't see anything to be optimistic about.

reply

Why don't they make some hot twentysomethings do the naughty, spliced with some monster fighting? Sounds like a winner.

reply

Oh, blah blah blah before the wall was built in Westeros of course. When bras were not invented yet...

reply

Exactly. If for no other reason, if Watts is in, I'm in. She makes it, at least, worth giving a shot.

reply

Watts is hot and a great actor.

For that reason alone, I'm in.

reply

Yeah, I'm a straight female and her hotness isn't my consideration (like some of the others seem to concentrate on). But she tends toward quality roles and she is a good actress. It would be hard for me not to at least check it out.

reply

I've been a big fan of her ever since the first time Mulholland Drive blew my mind. It's not like I don't notice her physical merits, but hot women are everywhere. This one has actual talent behind the exterior.

reply

No I don't really. Hard to match GOT and the characters we grew to love and now that I know Naomi Watts is going to be in the prequel, that is a definite no. I don't really rate her. She acts with her mouth open staring into space a lot. King Kong is an example of that and also the awful Diana film.

reply

In King Kong she was hot. Like Gorilla Bone hot.

reply

:-) She is very pretty, so I can see her appeal, but for me she doesn't have that gravitas or personality on screen.

reply

I'm not particularly interested at this stage. I want a satisfying conclusion for this show first. A prequel series should not even be considered until this show has been completed and we have time to full digest it.

Them announcing multiple prequels before this show was even completed was not a good sign. It seems like they did that so as to soften the blow of GOT being ruined/rushed. They knew the idiot sheep would be be so excited for more shows with dragons that they wouldn't care how badly the original show was getting butchered.

reply

Well, the claim is (at least currently) that the prequel show will not include dragons...so I guess the "idiot sheep" aren't going to be happy with it, either.

reply

Much as I love Game of Thrones, I'm not excited at all for the prequel.

reply

I did until I heard they cast Jamie Campbell Bower.

I can't think of a worst actor in the UK. He belongs on UPN/CW shows like Vampire Diaries and Gossip Girl.

reply

I would have been a lot happier with either the Dunk & Egg stories or an adventure series about Bronn wandering the Seven Kingdoms and Essos, drinking, fighting and wenching.

reply

I think they will end up like the Star Wars prequels and add a lot of stuff that shouldn't be in there. Ever notice how the technology in the SW prequels seemed more advanced than the originals?

I see it as a cynical money grab and doubt they will be much good.
