Are you looking forward to this?

The trailer didn't really wow me at all. Thought it was ok. I'll still probably check it out eventually but this, Eternals & Ms Marvel are at the bottom of my must see list right now

I did see so many people praising it online when the trailer came out. People are either easily impressed nowadays or the MCU just doesn't excite me anymore. Idk...

Our world is just currently obsessed with the MCU, and disney has enough money to buy up all this hype.

The MCU content post Endgame has been hit or miss for me. But they've built a fandom that'll eat up whatever they put out. And defend it, No matter how mediocre it is.

Like Falcon & The Winter Soldier and Black were some of the blandest & most forgettable superhero content I've watched in a while. But they're getting so much praise & people are just eating that shit up.

I'm not "over the MCU", at least not yet. But looking at their upcoming roster of films & shows, Spider-Man 3 & Doctor Strange 2 are literally the only ones that actually excite me.

I enjoyed Black Widow, but my interest in that film is beyond an interest in the material. I liked it as a fast paced action film. I'm the type of viewer who enjoyed Fast 9, so the spectacle that was the final act of Black Widow was exciting for me (most of it).

I'm pretty much over the MCU since Endgame too, though I admit the third act of Shang-Chi got me kinda hyped. I'm not really looking forward to anything honestly. I only have a vague interest in Hawkeye because of Yelena but at this point, I'd be more interested to see comic book films tread new ground in general. (I'm disappointed that James Wan's horror spinoff of Aquaman got cancelled for instance.)

Bland's a good word. I'm really glad Suicide Squad was so fucking weird and offbeat. Really hope these films take more risks at breaking the mold.

I haven't seen Shang-Chi, yet. Our local theatre shut a few weeks ago cause of Covid. And the only other one got closed permanently a few months ago. Too many lockdowns caused them to go under, sadly.

Anyways, I absolutely loved The Suicide Squad. My favorite DCEU movie so far. It was so fun & wild. One of the most rewatchable films I've seen in a while.

Also, I absolutely love it when comicbook shows & films try something new. I really enjoyed Loki for the most part. And WandaVision (with the exception of the finale) was an absolute delight. And Doom Patrol is currently my favorite DC show

With so much superhero content in the past decade plus, it really starts to feel repetitive & samey. That's why I absolutely LOVE those weird, unique content. The stuff that takes chances & try something new.

re: dude, I loved The Suicide Squad too. I was so shocked at how much I liked it. I was afraid of a Guardians clone, and I was so pleased to see it was not.

I actually haven't gotten disney+ yet so I'm not caught up on the shows but the only one I really have an interest in is Wandavision (and Hawkeye), and that's mainly cause form what I hear, it sounds really weird, and a few ppl think I'd dig its strange narrative.

I've been meaning to check out Doom Patrol. Titans let me down hard after the first few eps of S1 but I've heard generally positive things about Doom.

Sorry to hear about all your local theaters :( that's rough. I'm a big theatergoer, so I'm hoping the industry survives all of this. Seems like it is so far...scarlett's lawsuit seemed to have helped in part XD. But yeah, hope you enjoy shang-chi. Based on what you're saying so far, I think you might not lol...but at the very least, I do think the movie is better than what the trailer had me believe.

Suicide Squad surprised me too. The first Guardians of the Galaxy is one of my all time faves but I didn't quite enjoy the sequel as much. Most of the jokes were just a miss for me. Was afraid for SS but I had an absolute blast.

If you like weird & Strange content, you will love both WandaVision & Doom Patrol.

I too was letdown by Titans. It tries too hard to be "dark & edgy" in my opinion. Without good writing to accompany it

And finally, the main reason I'm looking forward to Shang-Chi is cause of the martial arts. I'm a sucker for Kung fu/Martial arts content.

reply

Those did not get praise. Everyone agrees that both were crap. Loki and especially Shang Chi are getting ridiclous amounts of excessive praise. Shang Chi was maybe lower middle tier Marvel.

reply

I am! This is the only thing since Endgame that has me curious. Mostly cause it looks like a fun adventure.

reply

Meh. Kate Bishop looks kinda hot, but I doubt I'll miss her if this show fails and she disappears without explanation. I had faith back when WandaVision turned out well, but Falcon & Winter Soldier, and Loki, destroyed that.

At this point, I'll watch only to see which is worse, this or DC's Arrow.

reply

No. I like Hawkeye, but I am sick of the MCU and all of it's intertwining stories. I'm sure there will be tie ins to something else that I haven't watched so I probably won't watch it.

reply

It looks like it could be fun, and a nice change of pace from the last couple of MCU shows. I'll give it a chance.

reply

Assuming it's based on the Fraction run, which I assume based on the circles in the art in the background matching the Fraction artwork, it should be a fun tone. It's more a look into the life of Barton, than a big superhero story.

reply

Yes I am. Will skip the musical episode though. Can't stand musicals.

reply

No, I'll probably give it a chance, but Hawkeye has always been my least favorite Avenger and he's gotten *less* likable as the series has gone on.

Since it's apparently about him training a replacement there's good odds that he'll die at the end, that might be worth watchin as long as I've got Disney Plus.
