Another Neeson Flop

Bad reviews, no marketing, nothing original about it. This might be an even bigger flop than the horrendous Blacklight

What happened to this guy? He used to make good action flicks.

reply

Why is this old man getting all these action type roles?
is 65? 70 ?

reply

Because Taken was such a hit they could sell an action movie with Neeson in the lead like 10 years ago. It's why movies like Unknown and Non-Stop were box office hits.

Exactly. He does ANOTHER remake of a great international movie that you no longer can get in the US and hopes it flies. The Dutch movie Memory of a Killer was fantastic. And that becomes his movie, Memory. And before that he does the Stellan Skarsgard great movie, In Order of Disappearance (it’s Norwegian - I think this one is available), and makes a mediocre movie called Cold Pursuit. Just see the originals, if you can. I think they make these other movies unavailable so you will watch his lackluster movies and not know the real thing.

Hollywood has been redoing foreign movies for years. And they aren't banned from the US, I watched both the ones you mentioned and had no problem finding them.... Sometimes the remake is better sometimes worse. It really depends no whether they tried to just blindly reshoot the original or have a decent writer actually put some thought into the new script.

Where is Memory of a Murder? It’s not available for streaming but I found I could rent dvd on Netflix. I stopped the renting of dvds a few years ago. I might start again. Order of Disappearance is recent and on Vudu. What about Anthony Zimmer. The French one. So much better than The Tourist. And Garde a vue. French movie much better than Under Suspicion. I can’t find them.

I still have the DVD rental on Netflix because after Blockbuster died it is the best option for finding foreign films that are otherwise obscure. In some instances you can also find them on Usenet, only issue there is they are often only in the original language and may not have subtitles in English so if you don't know the language it can be an issue.

Thank you. It was kind of revelation when this discussion came up because I was wondering where and how I saw all of these great movies and I realized I once had the Netflix 2 dvds rotating - I had a long list of great movies as well. I wonder where that went to. And then I stopped it for streaming only. What a mistake because I am watching trash. I believe I might be able to get others at Alliance Francaise’s library if I join. There are just so many — not banned — just not available. Some of the good ones though are available - Infernal Affairs over The Departed. Secret in Their Eyes - the original over the American. It took Forbrydelsen (Danish - The Killing) 12 years to get to the US. And I need everything subtitled. I think the Criterion Collection channel also has some. I will look at Usenet. There’s a website called Movie Detective that have taken some foreign movies and managed to add subtitles. Most of these are older classics.

You are looking for any that were never made available in the US, another option is DVD's from ebay.co.uk or the Australian ebay. Often movies and shows that don't make it to the US will still show up in the UK or Australia where they usually also come with English subs. You can also get software that will let you skip the region codes or a cheap DVD player that can swap regions using hidden menus, which is much nicer than the when you had different VHS formats, back then I had to buy a very expensive multi format VHS player but now you can find a DVD player that will do any region for less than 50.

Oh well...he had a good run

It's the no marketing bit that's important. They spend no money selling his movies, but people will always watch them. That's the formula.

I mean my lord, they clearly spent more money promoting the new Top Gun than they spent on the movie. No matter how much that makes, it might be a flop.

reply

The film is terrible!
However it was made for streaming regarding zero marketing.
It was released theatrically on few screens as this was required to secure financing.
What do you expect with a 80 years old director and 70 years old star.
I rated it 2.

He's effectively turned in to Steven Seagal.
