Retro-futurism and people being besserwissers.

Retro-futurism means that its sci-fi ideas and styles from other timeperiods done again. Like having a cyberpunk movie with 80´s hair styles, or in Fallout where it is cold war 1950s america aestetics.

When we talk about how the "message" is extra jarring in a movie that took place in the 1950s and people say it happened in 2077 then dont understand the point.

2077 was USA 1950s with ideas, values and aesteics. So the message makes no sense in many aspects.

Its pretty clear that the wasteland has kept much of the value system after the bomb to. Especially the vault dwellers.

reply

there is no "the message" though. "The Message" is a fringe conspiracy theory by a small but dedicated group of modern-era vault dwellers who came up with it as a means to cope with the reality that their opinions about how movies should be made don't actually matter to anyone who matters.

Oh, there is a message. But I would guess you are 14 years old and therefor dont remember a time when the message wasnt everywhere. It was about 5-10 years ago.

But the point that you jumped over was: Retro futurism makes the "they wouldnt have done that in the 1950s" a valid statmenet even though the show is suppose to be in 2077 or even later than that.

reply

It's very aesthetic in Fallouts case.

And the games were like that too anyway. It wasn't a copy and paste of 1950s social attitudes into 2077. The show didn't invent anything here.

But what specifically are you referring to anyway?

I was wondering that , I've been over the OP a couple of times but ... nothing
couple that with the passive aggressive:
Oh, there is a message. But I would guess you are 14 years old and therefor dont remember a time when the message wasnt everywhere.

and I think its clear we have another tinfoil hat wearer too od'd on buzzwords to express himself properly and further clarification requests would elicit replies laden with "deep state" , "Illuminati" type replies.

Well they made a post a few months ago questioning a Resident Evil movie for its 'anti-Christian' overtones.

reply

Are you stalking me?

How nice. Yes, I did notice that a evil character in Resident Evil - Final Chapter was suddenly overtly christian that was never established before. To quote the future Snow White Rachel Zegler ""Weird? Weird."

I noticed the original post, but was surprised to see more people joined. The reason why I didnt reply is that I felt the comment was a mix between sealioning and emperors new cloth. We all know what the message is and we can all see it in Pop-Culture. The message was NOT (as much) in older entertainment and art. Its been mostly in entertainment the last 10 years or so.

I feel its degrading to talk about the specifics to be honest with you. I talk about the message of doctor who here though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIOngN3q3fY

Because I couldnt understand why one of the shows who has had "the message" from the very beginning (of the new run) suddenly became too much and I point out some of the message of that show. Same goes with Fallout series. The games, which I have played ALL of, do not have that "message". At least not in an annoying overtly way.

reply

Do you think you could summarise the message that these movies have in a sentence?

reply

Yes, I can actually: "Socially destructive neo-marxist propaganda".

Its not my phrasing though, its this guys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qR2v3lhLIAw

Again its Doctor Who. They have always lead the way for this things. I think modern doctor who has made more damage to modern pop-culture than any other show.

And I kind of like Doctor Who (not the newest, but up until Mark Smith), but so many things that ONLY work in Doctor Who has been taken up into other movies and shows narratively. And then there is of course the political things.

reply

Right so is the message "we dont want no gays or blacks because we're white" ?

and they've kind of phrased that as "Socially destructive neo-marxist propaganda" to seem less obnoxious?

Theres a lot of persecuted white man crying in that video and its comments .
Jus because a black man is on your screen doesent mean you its not for you , or you cant watch it , ot that the white man is being terrorised , unless you decide thats what you want it to mean .

Next thing you're having secret meetings out in the woods with broken cross flags , burning crosses and funny hats to decide how to combat this "message"

You got any problem with white people?

Never said that. I love Blade. Great movie. Fallen (1998). Enjoyed that.

Issue is not race.

I have enjoyed movies with gay themes as well. Rocky Horror Picture Show. I have the soundtrack to that one.

Its the obvious intention.

I better not or you will riot in the streets and kill people who defend their friends shop.
