Only made $4m at the Box Office this weekend. 63% Drop. No longer in Top 5. Major Flop

This is going to go down as one of the biggest flops of the year. Haha

Not as bad as Chaos Walking

reply

Chaos Walking was going to be a flop no matter when it was released. Lionsgate just dumped it so they could get it off the release schedule.

reply

So what, still not as bad as Chaos Walking.

reply

Haven't seen it so I can't say.

reply

I thought it was a little too narrow in scope. And it fails to find the universal in the personal to click with the audience. Also, it has a fatal flaw for a musical -- I can't remember a single song, and no catchy melodies that might burrow into your brain for days.

reply

I agree with this. The songs are not memorable enough.

reply

You seem a little obsessed. Four threads started here?
Get on with your life.

"Go diverse, go broke"

Are we learning yet?

I was actually interested in seeing this as I work in community theater and one of the theaters I work at just scheduled it as our season Closer. It was part of the lineup for the 2020 season and got cancelled when Covid hit. I thought it would be great to see the film and then see the show. But what got me to decide not to go was the whole controversy with LMM apologizing for the movie 'not being dark enough'. That stuff really ticks me off. And the super woke crowd just have no idea how much they are hurting their cause. I just want to see a musical with good acting, songs and a story. I don't want to be lectured to and I am tired of the 'need for diversity crowd'. I didn't even think of the movie that way until the uproar happened. And I can only imagine what my theater's audition notice is going to look like. I am just tired of all of it.

reply

Perhaps it has more to do with the fact that it wasn't as big of a hit as Hamilton on Broadway, the last US tour of it ended in 2011. It's just not as well known, and as much as people seem to love Miranda, it's still a musical.

reply

All these numbers are going to be off since these movies are going to HBO Max on day 1. Whether its a flop or not, idk. People seem to be wanting to give this movie inflated scores on review sites rather than actually buy tickets or stream it multiple times.

reply

Am I the only one here who doesn't celebrate people's failures? Geez...

reply

People just want to see GOOD movies, not diverse movies, or inclusive or whatever woke buzzword is rallied this minute.
Many black films appeal to black audiences mostly, and that's okay.
Many Asian films appeal to asian audiences mostly, and that's okay.
Many white films appe.... WHOOPS!! Gotta shoehorn in every race to make it acceptable now. Then, they've alienated their white audience.
Oh, then women directed films are supposed to appeal to men, they don't, they scream sexism or whatever the hell, when really it is simply that the film suck.
IMHO the first Wonderwoman was really entertaining. The 2nd was crap. Not because it was written/directed by a woman, but simply because the story was crap.
I love Jordan Peele's black films - and I'm white - but have no attraction to Tyler Perry's anything. Never seen, nor been interested in one of them.
Just make GOOD films, stop worrying over race, diversity, inclusive etc

reply

But this is a good film. It's critically acclaimed and it has Oscar buzz.

reply

I know GOOD is subjective, but why is it doing so badly? When other films are cashing in?

The ratings seem decent.

I tried watching and found nothing in it for me.

reply

because it's a minority-starred musical.

reply

So, they crave(push?) diversity.... but it doesn't sell... are they learning?

Stats and facts are still stats and facts.

Woke/leftists or whoever scream, "we need more X ", but do we really? We can't force people to support movies. They is what they is.

reply

Shocking that Trump's America wouldn't support minority led projects

reply

I don't give a crap about trump or any politics. look at the stats above. hollywood makes money. who are you making films for if you need to make the most money?

I explained why I don't support minority led projects - they simply don't interest me*. neither do many black films, woman's films, gays films. do you know who those do interest? blacks, women, and gays. the math is simple. the comprehension of support is not?

* now, if the story was amazing - and didn't matter who or what race played the parts to make it happen, I, and many others would be interested in watching and supporting it.

not sure why politics was brought up here.

reply

That says a lot about you, not the projects you refuse to support.

reply

Yes. I am allowed to have my own, individual interests, different from others. :)

Then, there are those who think homogenizing society is a positive idea.

reply

Holy shit, that is funny as hell coming from you. You do nothing but manipulate news and take things out of context so you can create a non-existent failure to celebrate in the form of hatred. You gleefully celebrate what you view as people's failed opinions, evidently lending you a false sense of superiority. Lol, do I need to cut and paste the definition of hypocrite for you?

These are just a few of your posts over the last WEEK!🤣 I'll leave these quotes of yours here so everyone can see what a hypocritical joke The Argentinian is:

Lol, people still on that bullshit? It's over, man. Trump lost.

Way to not take socio-economic context in consideration , white supremacist.

Another idiot reacting to a headline. Typical.

How about read the article before spewing shit?

wtf would you know about anything, ignorant American.

reply

Argentinian is an invective-spewing troll.
