You're the daughter of the most powerful man in the universe

...and you look like that?! https://www.denofgeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/dune-2-trailer-breakdown-princess-irulan-florence-pugh.jpg

What the hell?! Why couldn't they cast a pretty girl with a better costume for the role?! Irulan looked way prettier in the '84 film and the 2000 miniseries, and was better dressed.

I'm actually getting sick and tired of seeing Florence Pugh in everything. She's not that pretty, and she can actually be irritating to listen to.

I honestly don't know anything about her other than people saying she's not attractive and the picture of her crying in the wider man movie cover.

reply

I don't doubt she's a good actress and has friends in the 'biz who can call in favors to get her roles, but to try and sell her as "beautiful and sexy" is really stretching it. It reminds me of how they tried that with Sarah Jessica Parker and Ashley Tisdale, when they aren't actually very pretty at all.

Days like this make me glad I left the dating pool 23 years ago.

She's looks fine. But she's pretty much a fetus to an old guy like me.

reply

She has short hair, thick, dark eyebrows that betray her dye job, she wears almost no makeup, her outfit looks like boring pajamas, and the headdress looks cheap and thrown on.

Princess Irulan was a beautiful blond in spectacular gowns in the '84 film; and in the 2000 miniseries, she was a beautiful brunette with very elaborate costumes, probably some of the most elaborate ones in the entire cast.

This version of her looks more like a boring extra that should have been left in the background of the princess's chambers, working on bed linens.

WHY ARE YOU SO ANGRY AT WOMEN,BRO?

reply

hmm... you should check out the new juliet then

reply

Powerful does not mean attractive. King Charles is married to one of the least attractive woman in England. He had a choice.

The Emperor can choose his concubines, but unless they are dabbling in modifications to the fetus like they did in Gattica, then you get what you get.

The actress shown in the above link is attractive. I'm sure there are occasions when dressing down is appropriate?

reply

We're not allowed to want to see conventionally pretty girls anymore! Those of us who do are evil and must be urgently 're-educated'!

Reported.

😊

she looks manly. irulan in the books is a pretty delicate princess

reply

Yeah, Virginia Madsen was a goddes in Dune '84. I could have just watch her narrating the whole story in a close-up.

reply

Yep, crazy beautiful

reply

Florence Pugh is a plenty attractive woman, but that's a pretty dull look for "Princess Irulan". Maybe its her in her private room, dressed down or something.

If you want to see why I'm annoyed, you need look no further than these photos:

The 1984 version was mostly accurate because Irulan was described in the Dune Encyclopedia as being blond with green eyes. So they are partially accurate with the new version. The 2000 one was not accurate when it came to hair color, but they did use an added subplot about her to develop her character more as an intelligent, but mostly overlooked person in the grand scheme of things. Her position as the emperor's oldest daughter, who wasn't directly involved in politics, gave her the ability to witness a lot of what was going on as well as being an extensive chronicler. The 2000 version was also better at revealing just how rich and lavish the Corrino family's lifestyle was, as well as their wardrobe.

Why do people get so hung up on casting actors that look identical to their descriptions in the book? "The book said she had eyes shaded green pigment #479128, and had exactly 948 hairs on her left arm...Florence Pugh only has 891 hairs on her left arm!!!!" Like shut the fuck up. It is such an acoustic thing to get hung up about. Reeks of dino nuggies and soiled adult diapers.
