Jim Carrey; unearned shame

I personally found it really disappointing that Jim Carrey actively spoke out against this film and didn’t involve himself in any of the marketing or promotion. I’m aware of his reasons for doing so, and his stance and opinions on the related matter. But I really feel it was totally undeserved. He played an amazing character in the Kick-ass sequel. It was an astounding, powerful and impressive Persona. One who had and kept tio a high standard of ethical moralism, that came across as truly pure and inspiring. The characters entire pitch was about helping others, doing right and keeping a strict moral code. Even being against profanity and needless violence. You had nothing to be ashamed about for this characters depiction. I was bawling my eyes when he was killed. I was so upset wishing that they killed off one of the other members. As that leader was such a cool guy. And I didn’t want it to be him.
All night bitch got with a severe beating, why was his death so overtly violent and grotesque? And they all get over it so quickly. They don’t even show any emotion or grief. They just mention it in passing. He didn’t deserve that. He was awesome. And Jim Carrey should feel nothing but pride in having played this character. Because its depiction left me with an overwhelming feeling of profound moral conscience

I liked his performance.

This is the first I've read of Jim Carrey disowning this movie, what am I missing here?

reply

Yeah, after the sandy hook school shooting, he withdrew any support for the film, stating he “cannot support the level of violence” in the movie. And distanced himself from attending any of the promotional means before its release.

Thank you.

No worries. But yeah, I understand the sentiment. But the movie was decent and his character was awesome. Respectable.
And it certainly wasn’t movies like this one that are inspiring the constant rise of American mass shootings.

Carey went into an Anti-gun perspective after a school shooting.

That's why he didn't endorse the film.

That's it.
