Shouldve been Six Million Dollar Man (or Knight Rider or Airwolf)

Gosling and Blunt could've still been in the lead roles (Gosling - Steve Austin/Michael Knight/Stringfellow Hawke, Blunt as Jamie Sommers/Bonnie/Caitlin)

My guess any of those would've opened closer to 98m instead of 28m. as those would've have a better chance at exciting audiences ,(but Fall Guy not so much)

Fall Guy was such a bizarre choice of 80s TV show to give the big budget treatment (stuntmen, insider Hollywood stuff), you want make a movie of a Lee Majors series surely its got to be TSMDM first and foremost (and is vaguely Superhero but like a realistic version). and Knight Rider or Airwolf are more beloved by fans and even regular folk who remember them (and both probably show on tv more regular than TFG), the iconic theme tunes, the 80s tech vibe etc. KR has the potential Fast & Furious meets Transformers thing (and The Hoff is still a big pop culture icon guy, he'd obviously cameo or more in some way), Airwolf is remembered as ubercool, and has the aircraft Top Gun thing (you can imagine how awesome it would be now with all the stunts etc). You only have to check utube for all the millions of views various clips, opening intros, theme tune etc those shows get (I'm guessing TFG gets no where near the level of KR/AW/SMDM)

Of course studios probably figure the original series the movie is based on is secondary to the hot 'of the moment' stars in an all new action film (also see 90s Mission, Lost in Space, Fugitive etc) but in often its the strength of the show concept and nostalgia that can make or break the new movie version ,

David Leitch is a former stuntman and he wanted to make this film as a tribute to stunt performers and their profession.

I watched this movie not even knowing it was based on any TV show. I just thought it sounded like a cool concept that hadn't been done to death, and the trailers looked good.

reply

Maybe they should had just named it 'The Stunt Man' instead of basing it off the Fall Guy then?

reply

You might be right. Though I guess the TV show may have provided some original impetus to make the film and maybe the studio thought that by calling the movie "The Fall Guy" that would attract at least a FEW people who watched the show back in the day.

Already done. Kowalski has the link. Peter O’Toole was nominated best actor. But it wasn’t about stunt men but a manipulative director (O’Toole) and a dead stunt man. One of the best movies ever. Fall Guy was the TV show. That’s why you see Lee Majors and Heather Locklear in the ending.

I’m really surprised that there hasn’t been a Six Million Dollar Man movie released yet. I always hear rumors about one in development.

reply

Its been in 'development hell' since the 00s and Mark Wahlberg has been attached for years. (vaguely remember there might be been a 'spoof' version with Will Ferrel at some point too)

reply

It’s being done I believe by and starring Mark Wahlberg. I think it’s still a go. Check IMDB.

Gosling as Stringfellow? Yes, seems like a good idea. But Blunt would be better, I believe, as Archangel's henchwoman Marella. Archangel could be played by Ben Affleck and Moffet by Jean Reno.

reply

Ideally would cast Tom Cruise as Stringfellow Hawke (although he probably say no as he's back doing Top Gun, unless he's like a major AW fan) so second choice be Josh Hartnett (as he looks abit like JMV), then Dom Santini would be SLJ easy, Archangel someone older (years ago used to imagine Redford or Ford but both be too old now) so id probably go with Pierce Brosnan or Jeffery Wright. Blunt would be the female lead but have to be someone else now she's in TFG so Haylee Atwell or Felicity Jones, Ana De Armes etc. Moffett a revered British actor like Ben Kingsley, Jeremy Irons, Ian McShane, (although all abit too old now), so maybe Cumberbatch, Hiddleston, Law or maybe Mads Milkensen

reply

Mikkelsen as Moffet? Alright!
