How did this movie get all the hype?

Finally got around to watching it on DVD... not sure what the big deal with this movie was. If you had eliminated the black angle it was quite honestly a weak by the book superhero movie. I somehow think that over time when people see it a second time they will quickly realize it wasn't a great movie they claimed it was when they first saw it.

It's the first movie to feature black people in it. That's what makes it so historically significant.

reply

Poe much?

reply

What?

reply

"It's the first movie to feature black people in it."
That is probably the most Poe statement I have read in years outside the realm of flat earthers.
Look up "Poe's Law"

reply

Oh, just read what it is, spot on lol

reply

dvd comes out next week 5/8. you already have it?

reply

Probably a "Bootlegged" or "Pirated" copy of inferior visual quality. Not that it would change the story elements or the immersive experience.

reply

Pirates released it last night. Higher bitrate versions are better than paid streaming services, almost as good as disc.

I think it's because Black Panther is a surprisingly popular comic book character, and it was a treat for him to get his own movie. Until Civil War, it wasn't even close to being expected.

Also, Black Panther is coming hot off Civil War, which was a big hit.

Let's also not forget this movie was one of the rare "new" Marvel movies, instead of a sequel. I think the last new one was when the first Guardians of the Galaxy came out, right?

Oh wait, no... Ant-Man... which is THE BEST! Haven't seen Infinity War yet though.

reply

Dr strange was new too.

reply

Oh yeah, forgot about that because I still haven't watched Dr. Strange. I have the 3D blu-ray, too.

reply

Also... Haven't seen Black Panther either. It didn't interest me too much, decided to wait for home video.

reply

Critics and fans put more emphasis on its "cultural" significance than the actual quality of the movie. I'm in several comic book groups, and even most hardcore fans of the comic thought the movie was only OK. I think it was better than several other Marvel movies, but it's ranking initially on RT was laughable.

reply

I thought it was ok...wife fell asleep during it.

reply

And that's just it,it was OK, but that's all it was.

reply

I read a review that didn't even discuss the movie itself, just how "important" it was...

reply

Haven't seen it yet... gonna watch it tonight. But this liberal logic, that a diverse cast automatically makes for a good movie, really annoys me. Like what happened with the last jedi... ruining one of the most popular franchises ever and sh*tting on the fans just to fulfill some liberal wet dream.

reply

Right, make a good movie with a diverse cast. Don't make a diverse movie and tell me it's great because of it's diversity.

reply

I just finished watching it too, and the OP is right, Black Panther is a mediocre superhero movie. It's also completely ridiculous even by Marvel standards, with lots of fake-looking scenes and shoddy special effects. I honestly can't figure out where all the hype is coming from and how it managed to rake in so much $$$.

Lastly, got lulz from massive lip-plate guy on the Wakadan high council. Couldn't understand anything said.

reply

couldn't agree more.

reply

Couldn’t understand anything he said? He was speaking a different language...

reply

Its average just like most of these super hero Marvel movies, for me theres only about four or five memorable ones, and this isnt one of them.

The tech in these movies is just getting silly too and has been for while. Black Panther as a character was interesting but not Wakanda.

reply

Right now im kind of going through a phase so im not going to see it for a while.
