18% critic 77% audience - so is it good?

Why such a divide between critics and audience? Is it good or not?

reply

For this movie, I consider the critics' reviews completely misplaced. They have validity story wise if this movie wasn't adapted from a videogame, but the videogame story exists and compared to it, the movie did justice to it to its fullest potential. I say go by the users score on this one, but if you never played the game, you definitely might get confused by it.

Less than 4,000 audience reviews yet. I'd wager the majority are from hard-core fanboys of the sort who gave 10/10 to BvS weeks before it was given wide-release.

It's probably not going to fall much because only fanboys are going to go see it.

Watch the damn film yourself. Form your own opinion!

Haha jeez. Harsh much. I was trying to figure out if I wanted to spend the money on a ticket for this. But now I don't think I will. Rather see Fences in a couple days anyway.

Another person spared this atrocity. Time well spent.

not terrible, but it's definitely below average, the pacing sucked, some of the action sequences were pretty good, but otherwise the movie was pretty dull tbh.

I actually think critics are the ones who are being too harsh on it. There are some excellently put together action sequences in this movie and the cast does a nice job making it work. I'm not sure where all this talk of the film being overplotted and senseless is coming from either.

I've never played the games, but the movie is dull as hell. Fassbender & Co. play it waaaaaaaaay too seriously and the CGI all but takes over the action scenes. Absolutely no humor and the characters are not fleshed out/completely one-dimensional. I walked out of it feeling pretty much the same way as I did with "Hitman - Agent 47".

Nope, The "audience score" is inflated by hardcore fans with no criteria, like Warcraft. It´s bad, IMO, and I even enjoyed AC:Unity.

Someone who's seen it answer this for me. I liked Legend of Tarzan this year despite the critics tearing that movie apart and it being a flop. Seems like nowadays the only movies that succeed are Marvel, Star Wars, and animated. Is this better or worse than Tarzan?

I loved Legend of Tarzan, despite it taking me awhile to appreciate the story moving on from the usual beginnings. I also loved Assassins Creed. Is it better or worse? I'm not sure since they're different genres but in my personal opinion I think Assassins Creed is better, in that I could watch it many times. Tarzan I've watched once but don't really have the urge to watch it again.

reply

If it's better than Tarzan I'm gonna like it, but I was planning on seeing it either way because there's nothing else I care about seeing right now.

I thought Tarzan was good, not great, but good, especially for what is was going for. I thought AC was much better. It immersed me in the world when they were in the Animus but I did need the present day stuff to understand what was going on as I am not a gamer. I just like the genre.

That being said, I do agree that the dialogue in the present day part was clunky and somewhat boring. I didn't like the main actress as she seemed way too wooden in her parts with almost no emotions most of the time.

Unlike some, I did like the bleed through parts where the past and present day mixed and he meet up with his ancestor. But the historic parts were the best.

I'm actually thinking about going to see it again.

If your going in having listened to the critics and disappointed fans. If might colour your judgment. I think I enjoyed it more because I watched first then read the reviews and came on to IMDB. My expectations were high only on MF because I've come to expect great performances from him. I wasn't disappointed. The movie was a great ride to escape on. I've read on Wiki (never sure whether that always is a reliable source) that they do have a sequel planned. Im sure this movie will do great overseas and I'm most looking forward to the DVD. I hope it's packed with behind the scenes material and commentaries. Love to see how it was all made from start to finish.

I liked Legend of Tarzan as well and I am still planning to see this, hopefully this weekend.

1. BVS 2. TWS 3. Avengers

reply

Seen and liked both.

Tarzan I would rate 7/10 - I didn't think the CGI animals looked realistic towards the ending but the plot was simple, it had a great villain and I could stand watching those abs a few more times.

Assassin's Creed I liked a whole lot better, I would rate it 8/10. Maybe because I played the game and knew most of the elements including why the Knights Templar wanted the Apple and what it could do - programming away free will is not just getting rid of dissent but in fact is just a different form of enforcing obedience/slavery. The flashback scenes in Spain had some of the best action/Parkour ever filmed. The movie suffered from lack of modern day exposition and could have used another 30 minutes to flesh out Maria and the other modern day assassins.

I saw it - and for my taste - I thought it was awful... easily the worst movie I have seen all year and maybe the worst I have ever fully sat through...

Without specific spoilers, the main issues are:
1. Poor to no character development
2. Decent action but it got very repetitive and boring.
3. No stakes in the flash-back action - they make it clear the main character can't effect the past action - so he's just along for the ride and that gets dull.
4. The ending is extremely clipped.. cuts off with a single action when it should have been an epic battle.

I don't know - everyone has their own taste so maybe you will like it - but I thought it was a lousy film and a waste of two hours...
