I must have missed this individual's brief period of fame.

I had no clue who she was. Had to google her. Too bad Amy Schumer already did a movie called Trainwreck, because that would have been a much better title for such a dysfunctional, repellent person.

Talented soulful singer co-wrote good songs.

I seriously hate 99.99% of new music. I find one singer I like... and she dies.

Thanks.

Will not watch the movie but damn her music is amazing, thanks for reminding me, haven’t listened to her in a long while

It's like that mentor in Good Will Hunting said. He was sad and angered that such brilliant brain got into the body of unworthy person, who is not valuing it. While people like him who try and work very hard and still can't solve things that Will Hunting could by not even trying.

Here it was sad that such good voice landed into unworthy trashy person who did not value it. She could have had it all and be mega star for years. And threw it all away, became junkie and died.

I didn't like all of her songs, but I thought she had a great voice.

Your parents probably didn't play her.

Mom played Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck. Dad played Johnny Cash.

Ewww!

She was pretty big in the UK for a little while. Something of a one album/one hit wonder. Her whole public image was 'talented singer with a great voice + anorexic drug addict'. Honestly I think she was more known for her issues than her music, at least for the last few years of her life. Her second album came out in 2006 and she died five years later. I think the perception at the time was that it was a shame a talented artists life was such a mess, then she died and in true fashion became something of a icon/legend, an outpouring of grief from people who had laughed at her the years prior.

They tried to make her go to rehab but she said no, no, no.

reply

Uh, give me more Amy Winehouses and fewer Taylor Swifts. I don't care about their personal lives.

Great rehab quote though. To the point.👍

Thank you. Seems like the bought and paid reviews are unable to write positive about a talented artist who didn't sell out.

Winehouse deserves the accolades. Even her filler tracks are eerily Motownesque.

But did you listen to her music? Ever? Did you ever see Mad Men? What type of music do you listen to? Dysfunctional yes. Never repellent. Just wondering.

I know you’re from the US (me too). You’d have to be. Because she’s from the UK. But even so, she was very famous. Your thoughts on Sid and Nancy? Nina Simone? There’s a reason why I’m asking.
